HardGround
Ifthegroundistoormtoobtainthedesiredaerationdepth,
thecoringheadcangetintoa“bouncing”rhythm.Thisis
duetothehardpanthetinesareattemptingtopenetrate.
Thisconditioncanbecorrectedbyattemptingoneormore
ofthefollowing:
•Bestresultsareobtainedafterarainorwhenturfhas
beenwateredthepreviousday.
•Reducethenumberoftinesperstomperarm.Attempt
tomaintainasymmetricaltinecongurationtoevenly
loadthestomperarms.
•Reduceaeratorpenetration(depthsetting)ifgroundis
hardpacked.Cleanupcores,waterturf,andaerateagain
atadeeperpenetration.
Aerationofsoiltypesbuiltontopofhardsubsoils(i.e.
sand/soilcapplacedoverrockyground)cancauseundesired
holequality.Thisiscausedwhentheaerationdepthisgreater
thanthesoilcapandthesubsoilistoohardtopenetrate.
Whenthetinescontactthissubsoiltheaeratormayliftand
causethetopoftheholestobecomeelongated.Reducethe
aerationdepthsufcientlytoavoidpenetrationintothehard
subsoil.

Usinglonger/largertinescanleavethefrontorrearof
theholetuftedorslightlydeformed.Holequalityforthis
congurationgenerallyimprovesifthecoringheadspeed
isreduced10-15%fromfulloperatingspeed.ForPTO
poweredaeratorsreducetheenginespeeduntilthePTO
speedisaround400–420rpm.Theforwardspacingisnot
effectedbyreducingtheenginespeed.Thepushedholecan
alsobeaffectedbythepositionofthecamberbracket.Refer
toAdjustingtheTineAngle.
MultiRowAdapterHeads
Whenusingmultirowadapterheads,reducetheenginespeed
untilthePTOspeedisaround400–420rpm.Theforward
spacingisnoteffectedbyreducingtheenginespeed.
RootZoneLifting
Usingmulti-tineheadsinconjunctionwithlargercoringtines
orlargediametersolidtinescaninducesignicantstresson
therootzoneoftheturf.Thisstresscanfracturetheroot
zoneandcausealiftingactiontotheturf.Ifthisdamage
occurstryoneormoreofthefollowing:
•Reducetinedensity(removesomeofthetines)
•Decreasecoringdepth(suggestedin1/2inchincrements)
•Increaseforwardholespacing(changetractor
transmissionuponegear)
•Decreasethetinediameter(solidorcoring)

ontheapplication.
