TransportOperation
Tobegintransportoperation,raisetheaeratorand
disengagethePTO.Toavoidlossofcontrol,traverse
steepinclinesslowly,approachroughareasat
reducedspeedandcrosssevereundulationscarefully.
Important:Donotexceedtransportspeedsof
24km/h(15mph).
OperatingTips
CAUTION
Improperlyusingormaintainingthismachine
canresultininjury.
•Beforeleavingoperator’sseatdisengage
thePTOdrive,engagetheparkingbrake,
shutofftheengine,removethekey,and
waitforallmovingpartstostop.
•Donotperformaeratoradjustmentsor
repairswithoutrstloweringtheaerator
ontothesafetystand.
•Ensurethatyousecureallsafetydevices
intheirproperplacebeforeresuming
operation.
•Carryreplacementtines,springwires,springs,
andtoolsincasethetinesaredamageddueto
contactwithforeignmaterials.
•EngagethePTOatlowenginespeed.Increase
theenginespeedtoachievethedesiredPTO
speedof400to460rpm(maximum)andlowerthe
aerator.Operateatanenginespeedatwhichthe
aeratorrunsmostsmoothly.
Note:Changingtheengine/PTOspeedina
particulartractionunitgear(orxedhydrostatic
pedalpositionontractionunitswithhydrostatic
transmission)doesnotchangetheholespacing.
•Makeverygradualturnswhenaerating.Never
makesharpturnswithPTOdriveengaged.Plan
youraerationpathbeforeloweringtheaerator.
Makingsharpturnswhileaeratingwilldamagethe
aeratorandthetines.
•Iftheengine/PTOloadraiseswhenoperatingthe
machineonhardgroundorgoinguphill,raisethe
aeratorslightlyuntilengine/PTOregainsspeed,
thenlowertheaeratoragain.
•Bestresultsareachievedwhenthetineentryis
onaslightinclinetowardtherearofthemachine.
Usecautionwhenextendingthehydraulictop
linktokeepfromhammeringtheturfwiththetine
heads.Insomecases,youmaynotachievethe
bestresultsfromusingthepresetholesinthe
camberbrackets,especiallywherethegrassroots
areshortorweak.Youmaywanttoexperiment
usinganothercambersettingthatwillsetthetines
onmoreofaninclinetokeepfrompullingsoilout
ofthehole.
•Donotaerateifthegroundistoohardordry.You
willobtainthebestresultsaeratingafterarainor
afterwateringtheturfthepreviousday.
Note:Iftherollerridesupoffthegroundwhile
aerating,thegroundistoohardtoachievethe
desireddepth;reducetheaerationdepthuntilthe
rollercontactsthegroundduringoperation.
•Raisetheaeratorpenetrationifthegroundishard
packed.Cleanupthecoresandaerateagainata
deeperpenetration,preferablyafterwatering.
•Lookbehindfrequentlytoensurethatthemachine
isoperatingproperlyandthatitisalignedwith
previouspasses.Alossofonelineofholes
indicatesabentorlosttine.Inspectaftereach
pass.
•Topreventmowersorotherturfmaintenance
equipmentfrombeingpickingupandthrowing
debris,alwayscleartheareaofalldamaged
machineparts,suchasbrokentines,etc.
•Replacebrokentines;inspectandrepairdamage
tousabletines.Repairanyothermachinedamage
beforeresumingoperation.

•Parkthemachineonalevelsurface;engagethe
parkingbrake;shutofftheengine;removethekey;
andwaitforallmovementtostopbeforeleaving
themachine.
•Keepallpartsofthemachineingoodworking
conditionandallhardwaretightened.
•Replaceallworn,damaged,ormissingdecals.
