thoroughlyinspectingitperiodicallyfordamage.
•Donotoperatethemachinewithadamaged
ROPS.DonotrepairoraltertheROPS.
•TheROPSisanintegralsafetydevice.
SlopeSafety
Slopesareamajorfactorrelatedtoloss-of-control
andtip-overaccidents,whichcanresultinsevere
injuryordeath.
•Surveythesitetodeterminewhichslopesare
safeforoperatingthemachineandestablishyour
ownproceduresandrulesforoperatingonthose
slopes.Alwaysusecommonsenseandgood
judgmentwhenperformingthissurvey.
•Ifyoufeeluneasyoperatingthemachineona
slope,donotdoit.
•Keepallmovementonslopesslowandgradual.
Donotsuddenlychangethespeedordirectionof
themachine.
•Avoidoperatingthemachineonwetterrain.Tires
maylosetraction.Arollovercanoccurbeforethe
tireslosetraction.
•Ifyoubegintolosemomentumwhileclimbinga
slope,graduallyengagethebrakesandslowly
reversethemachinestraightdowntheslope.
•Turningonaslopecanbedangerous.Ifyoumust
turnonaslope,doitslowlyandcautiously.
•Loadsandattachmentsaffectstabilityonaslope.
–Carryareducedloadandreduceyourground
speedwhenoperatingonaslope.
–Securetheloadtothemachinebedtoprevent
theloadfromshifting.
–Takeextracarewhenhaulingloadsthatshift
easily(e.g.,liquids,rock,orsand).
•Avoidstarting,stopping,orturningthemachineon
aslope,especiallywithaload.
–Stoppingwhilegoingdownaslopetakes
longerthanstoppingonlevelground.
–Ifyoumuststopthemachine,avoidsudden
speedchanges,whichcancausethemachine
totiporrollover.
–Donotengagethebrakessuddenlywhen
rollingrearward,asthismaycausethe
machinetooverturn.
•Donotdrivethemachineneardrop-offs,ditches,
orembankments.Themachinecouldsuddenly
rolloverifawheelgoesovertheedgeorifthe
edgegivesway.
LoadingandDumpingSafety
•Donotexceedthegrossvehicleweight(GVW)of
themachinewhenoperatingitwithaloadinthe
bedand/ortowingatrailer;refertoSpecications
(page19).
•Distributetheloadinthebedevenlytoimprovethe
stabilityandcontrolofthemachine.
•Beforedumpingthecargobed(ifequipped),
ensurethatthereisnoonebehindthemachine.
•Donotdumpaloadedcargobedwhilethe
machineissidewaysonaslope.Thechange
inweightdistributionmaycausethemachineto
overturn.
StartingtheEngine
Important:Donotattempttopushortowthe
machinetogetitstarted.Doingthiscannotstart
themachine,anddamagetothedrivetraincould
result.
1.Sitontheoperator’sseatandengagethe
parkingbrake.
2.DisengagethePTO.
3.MovetheshiftlevertotheNEUTRALposition.
4.Ensurethattheauxiliaryhydraulicleverisinthe
centerposition.
5.Keepyourfootofftheacceleratorpedal.
6.Insertthekeyintothekeyswitchandrotateit
clockwisetostarttheengine.
Note:Releasethekeywhentheenginestarts.
DrivingtheMachine
1.Disengagetheparkingbrake.
2.Movethegear-shiftlevertoyourdesiredposition
(FORWARDorREVERSE).
3.Presstheacceleratorpedaluntilyouattainthe
desiredspeed.
Note:Avoidlongperiodsofengineidling.
StoppingtheMachine
Tostopthemachine,removeyourfootfromthe
acceleratorpedalandpressthebrakepedal.As
youpressyourfootfurtherdownonthepedal,the
machineslowsdownquicker.
