Useextracarewhenonhills.Nevergoonhillsthat
areextremelysteep.Stoppingwhilegoingdowna
hillwilltakelongerthanonlevelground.Turning
whilegoingupordownahillismoredangerousthan
turningonthelevel.Turnswhilegoingdownhill,
especiallywiththebrakeson,and,turninguphillwhile
traversingahillareparticularlydangerous.Evenat
aslowspeedandwithoutaload,tipoversaremore
likelyifyouturnonahill.
Slowdownandshiftintoalowergearbeforestarting
upordownahill.Ifyouhavetoturnwhileonahill,do
itasslowlyandcautiouslyaspossible.Nevermake
sharporfastturnsonahill.
Ifyoustallorbegintoloseheadwaywhileclimbinga
steephill,quicklyapplythebrakes,shifttoneutral,
starttheengineandshifttoreverse.Atidlespeed,
theengineandtransaxledragwillaidthebrakesin
controllingthevehicleonthehillandhelpyouback
downthehillmoresafely.
Reducetheweightoftheloadifitisasteephillorif
theloadhashighcenterofgravity.Remember,loads
canshift,securethem.
Note:Themachinehasexcellenthill-climbingability.
Thedifferentiallockwillincreasethisability.Hill
climbingtractioncanalsobeincreasedbyadding
weighttotherearofthevehicleinoneofthefollowing
ways:
Addingweighttoinsideofbox,makingsureitis
secured.
Mountingwheelweightstorearwheels.
Addingliquidballast(calciumchloride)toreartires.
Tractionwillincreasewithnopassengerinfront
seat.
LoadingandDumping
Theweightandpositionofthecargoandpassenger
canchangethemachinecenterofgravityand
machinehandling.T oavoidlossofcontrolresultingin
personalinjury,followtheseguidelines.
Donotcarryloadswhichexceedtheloadlimits
describedonthemachin-weightlabel.
WARNING
Thebedwilllowerwheneverthedumplever
ispusheddown,evenwhentheengineisoff.
Turningofftheenginewillnotpreventthe
boxfromlowering.Alwaysplacethesafety
supportontheextendedliftcylindertohold
theboxupifyouarenotgoingtolowerit
rightaway.
Themachinehasseveralcombinationsofboxes,
platforms,andattachmentsavailable.Thesecanbe
usedinvariouscombinationsthatallowformaximum
capacityandversatility.Thefullsizedboxis140cm
(55inches)wideby165cm(65inches)longandcan
holdupto1477kg(3249lb)ofevenly-distributed
cargo.
Loadsvaryinhowtheyaredistributed.Sandspreads
outevenlyandquitelow.Otheritems,suchasbricks,
fertilizerorlandscapetimbers,stackhigherinthebox.
Theheightandweightoftheloadhasasignicant
inuenceontipovers.Thehigheraloadisstacked,
themorelikelythevehicleistotipover.Youmay
ndthat1477kg(3249lb)stackstoohighforsafe
operation.Reducingthetotalweightisonewayto
reducetheriskofatipover.Distributingtheloadas
lowaspossibleisanotherwaytoreducetheriskofa
tipover.
Iftheloadispositionedtowardoneofthesides,itwill
makethemachinemuchmorelikelytotipoveronthat
side.Thisisespeciallytruewhenturningiftheloadis
ontheoutsideoftheturn.
Neverpositionheavyloadsbehindtherearaxle.Ifthe
loadispositionedsofartotherearthatitisbehindthe
rearaxle,itwillreducetheweightonthefrontwheels
andthiswillreducesteeringtraction.Withtheloadall
thewaytotheback,thefrontwheelscanevencome
offofthegroundwhengoingoverbumpsorupahill.
Thiswillresultinalossofsteeringandmayleadto
themachinetippingover.
Asageneralrule,positiontheweightoftheload
evenlyfromfronttorearandevenlyfromsideto
side.
Ifaloadisnotsecured,oryouaretransportinga
liquidinalargecontainersuchasasprayer,itcan
shift.Thisshiftinghappensmostoftenwhileturning,
goingupordownhills,suddenlychangingspeeds,or
whiledrivingoverroughsurfaces.Shiftingloadscan
leadtotipovers.Alwayssecureloadssothattheydo
notshift.Neverdumptheloadwhilethemachineis
sidewaysonthehill.
Heavyloadsincreasestoppingdistanceandreduce
yourabilitytoturnquicklywithouttippingover.
Therearcargospaceisintendedforloadcarrying
purposesonly,notforpassengers.
UsingtheDifferentialLock
Thedifferentiallockincreasesthemachinetractionby
lockingtherearwheelssoonewheelwillnotspinout.
Thiscanhelpwhenyouhaveheavyloadstohaulon
wetturforslipperyareas,goinguphills,andonsandy
surfaces.Itisimportanttoremember,however,that
thisextratractionisonlyfortemporarylimiteduse.
Itsusedoesnotreplacethesafeoperation,already
discussedconcerningsteephillsandheavyloads.
