Tippingorrollingthevehicleonahillwillcause
seriousinjury.
•Theextratractionavailablewiththedifferential
lockcanbeenoughtogetyouintodangerous
situationssuchasclimbingslopesthataretoo
steeptoturnaround.Beextracarefulwhen
operatingwiththedifferentiallockon,especially
onsteeperslopes.
•Ifthedifferentiallockisonwhenmakinga
sharpturnatahigherspeedandtheinsiderear
wheelliftsofftheground,theremaybealossof
controlwhichcouldcausevehicletoskid.Use
thedifferentiallockonlyatslowerspeeds.
FourWheelDrive(Four-wheel
drivemodelsonly)
TheAutomaticonDemandfourwheeldrivefeature,onthis
vehicledoesnotrequireoperatoractivation.Thefrontwheel
driveisnotengaged(nopowerdeliveredtofrontwheels)until
therearwheelsbegintolosetraction.Thebidirectionalclutch
sensestherearwheelsslipping,engagesthefrontwheeldrive,
anddeliverspowertothefrontwheels.Thefourwheeldrive
systemcontinuestodeliverpowertothefrontwheelsuntilthe
rearwheelshaveenoughtractiontomovethevehiclewithout
slipping.Oncethisoccurs,thesystemstopsdeliveringpower
tothefrontwheelsandthehandlingcharacteristicsbecome
similartothatofatwowheeldrivevehicle.Thefourwheel
drivesystemfunctionsinbothfrowardandreverse,however,
whenturningtherearwheelswillslipslightlymorebefore
powerisdeliveredtothefrontwheels.

TransportingtheVehicle
Formovingthevehiclelongdistances,useatrailer.Make
surethevehicleissecuredtothetrailer.RefertoFigure27&
Figure28forthelocationofthetiedownpoints.
Important:Trailersweighingover680kg(1500lb)are
requiredtobeequippedwithtrailerbrakes.
Note:Loadthevehicleonthetrailerwiththefrontofthe
vehiclefacingforward.Ifthatisnotpossible,securethe
vehiclehoodtotheframewithastrap,orremovethehood
andtransportandsecureitseparatelyorthehoodmayblow
offduringtransport.

TowingtheVehicle
Incaseofanemergency,thevehiclecanbetowedfora
shortdistance.However,Torodoesnotrecommendthisas
astandardprocedure.

Towingatexcessivespeedscouldcausevehicleto
losesteeringcontrol.Nevertowvehiclefasterthan
8km/h(5mph).
Towingthevehicleisatwopersonjob.Afxatowlineto
holesinthefrontframemember.MovetheshiftertoNeutral
andreleasetheparkingbrake.Ifthemachinemustbemoved
aconsiderabledistance,transportitonatruckortrailer.
Note:Thepowersteeringwillnotfunction,makingit
difcult(increasedeffort)tosteer.
