3. Check depth of undercuts between segments.

4. Check for continuity between brush and yoke as
shown. Replace the field coil if there is no continuity.

5. Make sure pinion on overrunning clutch locks when
it is turned counterclockwise and moves smoothly when
it is turned clockwise. Check pinion for wear and dam-
age.

6. Check surface of brushes where they contact com-
mutator. If surface is too rough, replace brush. If brush
length is less than 1/3 of standard value, replace the
brush.
