IgnitionSystemOperation
TheengineontheGreensmasterhasamagnetoignitionsystemconsistsofan
ignitioncoil,asparkplugandpermanentywheelmagnets.Aywheelkey
maintainsproperignitiontiming.
TestingtheIgnitionSystem
Note:Donotremovethesparkplugfromtheenginewhentestingtheignition
system.Thesparkplugisnecessarytomaintainnormalstartingspeeds.
1.Withtheenginenotrunning,removethesparkplugwirefromthesparkplug
andconnectittothesparktester.
2.Connectthespringclipofthetestertoagood,unpaintedgroundonthe
engineblock.
3.EnsurethattheON/OFFswitchisintheONposition.Also,ensurethatthe
tractioncontrolisintheNEUTRALposition.
4.Pulltheenginestarterropeandobservethesparktester.Visibleandaudible
sparksshouldbeproducediftheignitionsystemisoperatingproperly.
Note:Ifashearedywheelkeyexists,thesparktestermayindicatean
operatingignitionsystembutignitiontimingwillbeincorrect.
5.Ifvisibleandaudiblesparksarenotproduced,aproblemexistseither
withengineignitioncomponentsorwithmachinecomponents.Toidentify
whethertheproblemexistswiththeengineorthemachine,disconnect
thewireharnessconnector(violetwire)fromtheengineprimarywireand
repeatstep4above.
A.Ifvisibleandaudiblesparksarenotproducedwiththeengineprimary
wiredisconnected,theengineignitionsystemisnotoperatingproperly.
RefertotheHondaServiceManualforengineinformation.
B.Ifvisibleandaudiblesparksareproducedwiththeengineprimary
wiredisconnected,machinecomponents(e.g.on/offswitch,interlock
module,machinewireharness)aredamagedorfaulty.Refertomachine
componenttestinginformationinthissection.
