1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,setthekeyswitchtotheOFFposition
andremovethekey.
2.Removetherearwheel;refertoRemovingandInstallingtheWheels(page
6–9).
3.Removethe4fastenerssecuringtherearwheelspindleortherearwheel
gearboxtothecastorfork;refertoRemovingandInstallingtheRearWheel
GearBox(page6–19)for3WDmachines.
4.Removethehood;refertoRemovingandInstallingtheHoodAssembly
(page6–43).
5.Removethesteeringpositionsensorbracketwiththesensorattached.
6.Removethemagneticcarrierboltandjamnutfromthecastershaft.
7.Removethe9angeheadscrews(item11)thatsecurethelowersteering
housing.
8.Foldthelockingtang(item6)freeofthecastlenut.
9.Supportthecasterforkandremovethecastlenut,tangwasher,andwasher.
Discardthetangwasher.
10.Lowerthecasterforkfromthemachinewiththelowersteeringhousingand
sectorgearattached.
11.Removethelowerbearingcone,sectorgear,andlowersteeringhousing
fromthecasterfork.Locateandretrievetheupperbearingcone.
12.Locateanddiscardthesteeringhousinggasket.Removeanygasketmaterial
fromtheupperorlowersteeringhousing.Removeanddiscardthesealin
thelowersteeringhousing.
13.Inspecttheupperandlowerbearingcupsintheframeforwearordamage
andreplacethemifnecessary.
InstallingtheRearWheelCasterFork
RefertoFigure135forthisprocedure.
1.Ifthebearingcupswereremovedfromtheframe,pressnewcupsintothe
framemakingsurethattheyarefullyseatedagainsttheshoulderofthe
framehousing.
2.Pressanewsealinthelowersteeringhousing.Applyasmallamountof
greaseontheinnerlipofthenewseal.
3.Beingcarefulnottodamagethenewseal,tthelowersteeringhousing
overthecastershaft.
Note:Useahightemperaturegrease(MobilXHP-222orequivalent)forthe
casterforkbearingsandthesteeringhousing.
4.Fitthesectorgearoverthecastershaftandcoatthesectorgearandsteering
motorpiniongearteethwithgrease.
5.Carefullyllthelowerhousingwith88to118cc(3to4ounces)ofgrease.
Cleananygreasefromthehousinggasketsurfacewithsolventifnecessary.
6.Packthebearingconeswithgreaseandtthelowerbearingconeoverthe
castershaft.
7.Verifythelocationofthe2dowelpinsandplaceanewhousinggasketin
position.
8.Supportthecasterassemblyandraiseitintopositionagainsttheupper
steeringhousing.Securethelowersteeringhousingwiththe9angehead
screwspreviouslyremoved.
