Thesteeringinputdeviceismountedtothesteeringarmbehindthesteering
wheel.Thesteeringinputdeviceincludesahalleffectsensorthatreportsthe
steeringwheelpositiontotheSC7:SteeringMotor.Thesteeringinputdevice
sensorsoperateon5VDCsuppliedbythesteeringmotor.Thesteeringinput
deviceisnotdirectlyconnectedtotheCANbus.
Thesteeringinputdevicealsoincludesabrakecoilwhichcreatesdrag
(feedback)foramore“natural”feelwhenturningthesteeringwheel.Thebrake
coiliscontrolledbyapulsewidthmodulated(PWM)signalfromtheT1:Primary
controller.
Thesteeringinputdeviceisnotserviceable,andisbesttestedbyusingthe
informationprovidedontheInfoCenterdisplayasdescribedinthefollowingtest
procedure.RefertoAppendixA(pageA–1)forcircuitwiringinformation.
Note:Ifthesteeringinputdeviceisremovedorreplacedforanyreason,the
steeringsystemcentermustbecalibrated;refertoCalibratingtheSteering
SystemCenter(page5–92).
TestingtheSteeringInputDevice
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,lowerthecuttingunitsandsetthekey
switchtotheOFFposition.
2.Engagethemanualparkingbrakeandsetthefunctioncontrolswitchtothe
NEUTRALposition.
