ServicingtheGearBox(continued)
1.Removethedrain/llpluganddraintheoilfromthegearbox.
2.Removethe4socket-headscrewsandseparatethegearboxcoverand
housing.Removeanddiscardthecovergasket.
3.Slidethesungear,ringgear,andplanetgearsfromthepinsonthegear
boxhousing.
4.Continuetodisassemblethegearboxasnecessary.
CAUTION
Usethe1−3/8inchatsontheinputshafttopreventtheinputshaft
fromrotatingduringdriveadapterremovalandinstallation.DONOT
usethe1/2inchhexontheinputshaftfordriveadapterremovalor
installationasinputshaftdamagemayoccur.
5.Ifthedriveadapterrequiresreplacement,applyhighstrengththreadlocker
(Loctite243orequivalent)tothe5/8inchthreadsofthedriveadapterand
tightentheadapterfrom150to173N∙m(110to120ft-lb).
6.Carefullycleanallthegasketmaterialfromthegearboxhousingandcover.
7.InspecttheV-ring,seals,bearings,gears,andbushingsinthegearbox
assembly.Replacethedamagedorworncomponentsasnecessary.
8.Ifthesungear,ringgear,orthegearboxhousingbearingsarereplaced,
pressthebearingsallthewaytoshoulderintothepart.
9.Iftheangebushingsarereplaced,ensurethattheangebushingisfully
seatedagainstthepart.
10.Assemblythegearbox.
EnsurethatalltheretainingringsandO-ringsarefullyseatedinthering
grooveduringassembly.
LubricatetheseallipsandO-ringsbeforeinstallingtheshafts.
Lubricatetheplanetgearandsungearpinsinthegearboxhousingwith
thegearoilpriortoinstallingthegears.
11.Cleanthegasketsurfaceonthegearboxhousingandcoverwiththesolvent
andinstallnewgasket.
12.Fitthegearboxcoveroverdowelpinsandinstallthe4socket-headscrews.
Tightenthescrewsfrom1.7to4.5N∙m(15to40in-lb).Inanalternating
crosspattern,tightenthescrewsfrom8.4to9.6N∙m(75to85in-lb).
13.Fillthegearboxwith80W−90gearoilandtightenthedrain/llplugfrom
4to5N∙m(32to42in-lb).
Thegearboxoilcapacityis50ml(1.7uidounces).
14.Operatethegroomergearboxbyhandtocheckforproperoperationpriorto
installation.
