Operation

CuttingUnitCharacteristics
Thedualpointbedknife-to-reeladjustmentsystem
incorporatedinthiscuttingunitsimpliestheadjustment
procedureneededtodeliveroptimummowingperformance.
Thepreciseadjustmentpossiblewiththedualpoint/bedbar
designgivesthenecessarycontroltoprovideacontinual
self-sharpeningaction-thusmaintainingsharpcuttingedges,
ensuringgoodquality-of-cut,andgreatlyreducingtheneed
forroutinebacklapping.
DailyAdjustmentsofCutting
Unit
Priortomowingeachday,orasrequired,eachcuttingunit
mustbecheckedtoverifyproperbedknife-to-reelcontact.
Thismustbeperformedeventhoughqualityofcutis
acceptable.
1.Lowerthecuttingunitsontoahardsurface,shutoff
theengine,andremovetheignitionkey.
2.Shutoffthemachineasfollows:
•Gasunits:stoptheengineanddisconnectthe
sparkplugwire.
•Electricunits:turnoffthemachineanddisconnect
thebatteryconnector(T-handle).
3.Slowlyrotatethereelinareversedirection,listening
forreel-to-bedknifecontact.Ifnocontactisevident,
turnthebedknifeadjustingknobsclockwise,oneclick
atatime,untillightcontactisfeltandheard.
Note:Theadjustmentknobshavedetents
correspondingto0.0007inch(0.018mm)bedknife
movementforeachindexedposition.
4.Ifexcessivecontactisfelt,turnthebedknifeadjusting
knobscounterclockwise,oneclickatatimeuntilno
contactisevident.Thenturnthebedknifeadjusting
knobsoneclickatatimeclockwise,untillightcontact
Important:Lightcontactispreferredatalltimes.
Iflightcontactisnotmaintained,thebedknife/reel
edgeswillnotsufcientlyself-sharpenanddull
cuttingedgeswillresultafteraperiodofoperation.
Ifexcessivecontactismaintained,bedknife/reel
wearwillbeaccelerated,unevenwearcanresult,
andqualityofcutmaybeadverselyaffected.
Note:ForeFlexcuttingunitsthereeltobedknife
contacthassignicantimpactonenergyconsumption.
Verylightcontactisrecommendedforoptimum
cuttingperformanceandbatteryconsumption.
Note:Asthereelbladescontinuetorunagainstthe
bedknife,aslightburrwillappearonthefrontcutting
edgesurfacealongthefulllengthofthebedknife.Ifa
leisoccasionallyrunacrossthefrontedgetoremove
thisburr,improvedcuttingcanbeobtained.
Afterextendedrunning,aridgewilleventuallydevelop
atbothendsofthebedknife.Thesenotchesmustbe
roundedofforledushwiththecuttingedgeofthe
bedknifetoensuresmoothoperation.
AdjustingtheClipSetting
Therearesixclipsettingsonthecuttingunitthatyoucan
settomatchyourturfconditions.Tororecommendsthat
youstartoutsettingthecliptomatchtheheight-of-cut,but
shouldthentestthecuttingunitandadjustthecliptoobtain
thequalityofcutyoudesire.
1.Shutoffthemachineasfollows:
•Gasunits:stoptheengineanddisconnectthe
sparkplugwire.
•Electricunits:turnoffthemachineanddisconnect
thebatteryconnector(T-handle).
2.Loosentheangeboltsecuringthebeltcoverand
removethebeltcovertoexposethebelt(Figure13).
