fromthefuelcanburnyou,burnotherpeople,anddamageproperty.
Usecautionwheneveryoustoreorhandledieselfuel.
Donotsmokewhilellingthefueltank.
Donotllthefueltankwhiletheengineisrunning,whilethe
engineishot,orwhenthemachineisinanenclosedarea.
Alwaysllthefueltankoutsideandwipeupanyspilleddiesel
fuelbeforestartingtheengine.
Storefuelinaclean,safety-approvedcontainerandkeepthecap
inplace.
Usedieselfuelasanenginefuelonly,notforanyotherpurpose.
CheckingtheFuelLinesandConnections
Checkthefuellinesandconnectionsatthescheduledmaintenanceintervals
recommendedintheOperator'sManual.Checkthelinesfordeterioration,
damage,leaks,orlooseconnections.Replacethehoses,clamps,andttings
asnecessary.
PrimingtheFuelSystem
Thefuelsystemneedstobeprimedbeforestartingtheengineforthersttime,
afterrunningoutoffuel,orafterfuelsystemmaintenance(e.g.,drainingthe
fuel/waterseparator,replacingthefuellterorafuelhose).T oprimethefuel
system,ensurethatthefueltankhasfuelinit.Then,turnthekeyswitchtothe
RUNpositionfor10to15seconds,whichallowsthefuelpumptoprimethefuel
system.DonotturnthekeyswitchtotheSTARTpositiontoprimethefuelsystem.
RemovingtheFuelTank
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,lowerthecuttingdecks,shutoffthe
engine,settheparkingbrake,andremovethekeyfromthekeyswitch.
2.Unlatchthehoodandraiseit.
3.Removethenegativebatterycablefromthenegativepostofthebattery.
4.Allowtheenginetocompletelycool.
5.Placeadrainpanunderthefueltank.Ensurethatthedrainpanislarge
enoughtoholdthefueltankcontents(refertoSpecications(page4–2)).
6.Openthedraincockatthebottomofthefueltankandallowthetanktofully
drain.Closethedraincock.
7.Disconnectthewireharnessconnectionfromthefuelsender(item24in
Figure36).
Note:Beforeremovingthefuelhosesfromthetankttings,labelthehoses
forassemblypurposes.
