CAUTION
Beforeopeninghydraulicsystem,operateallhydrauliccontrolsto
relievesystempressureandavoidinjuryfrompressurizedhydraulic
uid;refertoReleasingPressurefromtheHydraulicSystem(page
6–8).
4.Turnthesteeringwheelforarightturn(clockwise)sothesteeringcylinder
rodisfullyextended.

5.Cleantheareaaroundthehydraulichoseandttingattherodendofthe
steeringcylinder(Figure112).
6.Placeadrainpanunderthesteeringcylinder.Removehydraulichosefrom
thettingontherodendofthesteeringcylinder.Plugtheendofthehose.
7.Removeallhydraulicuidfromdrainpan.Ensurethattheemptydrainpan
remainsundertheopenttingofthesteeringcylinder.
8.Withtheengineshutoff,continueturningthesteeringwheelforarightturn
(clockwise)withthesteeringcylinderfullyextended.Observetheopentting
onthesteeringcylinderasthewheelisturned.Ifuidcomesoutofthetting
whileturningthesteeringwheeltotheright,thesteeringcylinderhasinternal
leakageandmustberepairedorreplaced;refertoSteeringControlValve
(page6–221)andServicingtheSteeringControlValve(page6–225).Check
drainpanforanyevidenceofuidthatwouldindicatecylinderleakage.
9.Whentestingiscompleted,removeplugfromthehydraulichose.Connect
hosetothesteeringcylindertting.
10.Ifasteeringproblemexistsandthesteeringcylindertestedacceptably,the
steeringcontrolvalvemayrequireservice;refertoSteeringControlValve
(page6–221)andServicingtheSteeringControlValve(page6–225).
11.Checkthehydraulic-uidlevelinhydraulicreservoirandadjustifnecessary.
