RemovingtheRearAxleMotorHousings
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,lowerthecuttingunits,shutoffthe
engine,settheparkingbrake,andremovethekeyfromthekeyswitch.
2.Blockthefrontwheelswithchockstopreventthemachinefrommoving.
3.Removetherearwheelassembly;refertoRemovingtheWheel(page8–6).
4.Removethecotterpinandslottedhexnutthatsecurethetierodend(item
22inFigure299)tothedraglink.Useaballjointremovaltool(picklefork)
andseparatethetierodendfromthedraglink.
5.Iftherightsidemotorhousingisbeingremoved,removethecotterpinand
slottedhexnutthatsecurethesteeringcylinderballjoint(item25inFigure
299)tothedraglink.Useaballjointremovaltool(picklefork)andseparate
thesteeringcylinderfromthedraglink.
6.ForthemachinesequippedwithCrossTraxAWD,removethe4bolts(item
14inFigure299)and4lockwashersthatsecurethewheelmotortothe
motorhousing.Slidethewheelmotorassembly(withthewheelhuband
hydraulichosesattached)fromthemotorhousing.Positionthewheelmotor
awayfromthehousing.
7.Supportthemotorhousingtopreventitfromfalling.
Note:Donotallowthewheelmotorassemblytohangfromthehydraulic
hoses.
8.Removetheange-headscrew(item2inFigure299),spindlecap,and
retainingringthatsecurethemotorhousingshaftintotheaxletube.Slidethe
motorhousingoutoftheaxletube.
9.Locateandretrievethethrustwasher(item7inFigure299)fromthemotor
housingshaft.
10.Ifnecessary,removethedraglinkfromthemotorhousing.
11.Ifnecessary,on2-wheeldrivemachines,removethehubandspindle
assembly(item2inFigure300)fromhousing.
12.Cleanthemotorhousingshaft.Inspecttheshaftforwearandreplacethe
motorhousingiftheshaftiswornordamaged.
