BatteryStorage
Ifyoustorethemachineformorethan30days:
1.EnsurethatthekeyswitchisintheOFFposition.Removethebatteryand
chargeitfully;refertoServicingtheBattery(page7–125).
2.Eitherstorethebatteryonashelforonthemachine.
3.Disconnectthecablesifthebatteryiskeptonthemachine.
4.Storethebatteryinacoolatmospheretoavoidquickdeteriorationofthe
batterycharge.
5.Topreventthebatteryfromfreezingduringstorage,ensurethatyouchargeit
fully;refertoServicingtheBattery(page7–125).
BatteryCare
1.Thebattery-electrolytelevelmustbeproperlymaintained.Thetopofthe
batterymustbekeptclean.Ifthemachineisstoredinalocationwherethe
temperaturesareextremelyhigh,thebatterywilldischargemorerapidlythan
ifthemachineisstoredinalocationwherethetemperaturesarecool.
WARNING
Thegasesareexplosive;also,theycancausenausea.
Wearsafetygogglesandrubbergloveswhenworkingwith
electrolyte.Chargethebatteryinawellventilatedplacesothat
thegassesproducedwhilechargingcandissipate.
Keepopenamesandelectricalsparksawayfromthebattery;
donotsmoke.
Disconnectthechargerfromtheelectricaloutletbefore
connectingordisconnectingchargerleadstoorfromthe
batteryposts.
IMPORTANT
Donotremovebatteryllcapswhilecleaning.
2.Checkthebatteryconditionweeklyorafterevery50hoursofoperation.
Keeptheterminalsandentirebatterycasecleanbecauseadirtybattery
willdischargeslowly.
A.Cleanthebatterybywashingentirecasewithasolutionofbakingsoda
andwater.Flushthebatterycasewithclearwater.
B.Coatthebatterypostsandcableconnectorswiththebatteryterminal
protector(refertoT erminalProtector(page7–7))orpetroleumjellyto
preventcorrosion.
3.Tightenthebatterycablesonthebatteryterminalstoprovideagood
electricalcontact.
