Sincetherecanbevariationsinthemountingsurfaceofthebedbar,anew
bedknifewillnotbeperfectlyatafteritisinstalledtothebedbar.Becauseof
this,itisnecessarytogrindanewbedknifeafterinstallingittothebedbar.
Followthebedknifegrindingspecicationsprovidedandgrindonlyenoughto
ensurethatthetopsurfaceofthebedknifeistrue;refertoBedknifeGrinding
Specications(page9–24)andFigure336.

Operatingthecuttingunitwiththebedknifebelowtheservicelimit
mayresultinpoorafter−cutappearanceandreducethestructural
integrityofthebedknifeforimpacts.
Whengrindingthebedknife,becarefultonotoverheatthebedknife.Remove
smallamountsofmaterialwitheachpassofthegrinder.Also,cleananddress
grindingstoneoftenduringthegrindingprocess.
Note:EdgeMax®bedknivesareextremelyhard.Usingadiamondgrinding
wheelisrecommendedtopreventoverheatingordamagingthebedknifeedge
whilegrinding.
Becausethetopgrindangleonbedknivesiscriticalforedgeretention,and
thereforeafter-cutappearance,Torohasdevelopedspecialservicetoolsfor
accuratelymeasuringthetopgrindangleonallbedknives;refertothe(page).
