DisassemblingtheGearPump(continued)
7.Removethethrustplatesandsealsfromeachpumpsection.Before
removingeachgearset,applymarkingdyetothematingteethtoretain
timing.Thepumpefciencymaybeaffectediftheteetharenotinstalledin
thesamepositionduringassembly.Keepthepartsforeachpumpsection
together;donotmixthepartsbetweensections.
InspectingtheGearPump
1.Removeanynicksandburrsfromallthegearpumppartswithemerycloth.
CAUTION
Useeyeprotectionsuchasgoggleswhenusingcompressedair.
2.Cleanallthegearpumppartswithsolventanddrythemwithcompressedair.

3.Inspectthedrivegearsandidlergearsforthefollowing(Figure156):
A.Gearshaftsshouldbefreeofscoring,roughsurfaces,andexcessive
wearatthebushingpointsandsealingareas.
B.Gearteethshouldbefreefromexcessivescoring,brokenornickedgear
teeth,andvisualwear.
C.Inspectthegearfaceedgeforsharpnessbecausesharpedgesofgears
willmillintothewearplates.
4.Inspectthewearplatesforthefollowing:
A.Bearingareasshouldnothaveexcessivewearorscoring.
B.Faceofthewearplatesthatareincontactwithgearsshouldbefreeof
wear,roughness,orscoring.
C.Thicknessofthewearplatesshouldbeequal.
5.Inspectthefrontangeandbodyfordamageorwear.
6.Replacetheentirepumpassemblyiftheinternalpartsareexcessivelyworn
ordamaged.
