TractionCircuitComponentFailure
ThetractioncircuitoftheReelsmaster5010seriesmachinesisaclosedloop
systemthatincludesthepiston(traction)pumpand2frontwheelmotors(4
wheelmotorsonmachinesequippedwithCrossTraxAWD).Ifacomponent
failureoccursinthetractioncircuit(e.g.,traction(piston)pumporwheelmotor),
unwantedmaterialandcontaminationfromthedamagedcomponentwill
circulatethroughoutthetractioncircuit.Thiscontaminationcandamageother
componentsinthecircuit,soremovethecontaminationtopreventadditional
componentfailure.
Therecommendedmethodtoremovecontaminationfromthetractioncircuitis
totemporarilyinstallaTorohighowhydraulic-uidlterintothecircuit;refer
toSpecialTools(page6–44).Useahighowhydraulic-uidlterwhenyou
connecthydraulictestgaugesinordertotestthetractioncircuitcomponentsor
afteryoureplaceafailedtractioncircuitcomponent(e.g.,traction(piston)pump
orwheelmotor).Usingahighowhydraulic-uidlterwillremovecontaminates
fromthehydraulicuidinthetractioncircuit,therebypreventingadditional
componentdamage.
AfteryouhaveinstalledtheTorohighowhydraulic-uidlterinthetraction
circuit,raiseandsupportthemachinewithallthedrivewheelsofftheground.
Then,operatethetractioncircuittoallowthehydraulicuidtoowthroughthe
circuit.Thelterremovescontaminationfromthetractioncircuitduringthecircuit
operation.BecausetheT orohighowlterisbi-directional,thetractioncircuit
canbeoperatedinboththeforwardandreversedirection.Whenyouarecertain
thatthelterhasremovedthecontaminatesfromthehydraulicuidofthetraction
circuit,removethelter.RefertoFilteringtheClosed-LoopTractionCircuit(page
6–149)foradditionalinformationonusingtheT orohighowhydraulic-uidlter.
Thealternativemethodtoremovecontaminationfromthetractioncircuitisto
disassembletheentiretractioncircuit,drainthehydraulicuid,andcleanallthe
components,tubes,andhosesinthetractioncircuit.Operatingthemachine
withcontaminantsinthetractioncircuitcouldcauseadditionaldamageto
componentsofthetractioncircuit.
Note:Thetractionpumpcasedraincouldallowtractioncircuitcontaminationto
contaminateotherhydrauliccircuitsonthemachine.
