ServicingtheAirCleaner
Checktheaircleanerbodyfordamagewhichcould
causeanairleak.Replaceifdamaged.Checkthewhole
intakesystemforleaks,damageorloosehoseclamps.
Servicetheaircleanerlteronlywhentheservice
indicator(Figure59)requiresit.Changingtheairlter
beforeitisnecessaryonlyincreasesthechanceofdirt
enteringtheenginewhenthelterisremoved.
Important:Besurethecoverisseatedcorrectly
andsealswiththeaircleanerbody.
1.Releasethelatchessecuringtheaircleanercoverto
theaircleanerbody(Figure59).

2.Removethecoverfromtheaircleanerbody.Before
removingthelter,uselowpressureair(40psi,
cleananddry)tohelpremovelargeaccumulations
ofdebrispackedbetweenoutsideofthelterand
thecanister.Avoidusinghighpressureairwhich
couldforcedirtthroughthelterintotheintake
tract.
Thiscleaningprocesspreventsdebrisfrommigrating
intotheintakewhenthelterisremoved.
3.Removeandreplacethelter(Figure60).
Cleaningoftheusedelementisnotrecommended
duetothepossibilityofdamagetotheltermedia.
Inspectthenewlterforshippingdamage,checking
thesealingendofthelterandthebody.Donot
useadamagedelement.Insertthenewlterby
applyingpressuretotheouterrimoftheelementto
seatitinthecanister.Donotapplypressuretothe
exiblecenterofthelter.
