ThreetypesofcuttingreeldesignsareusedincuttingunitsforReelmaster
machines:scallopedradialreel,taperedradialreel,andtaperedforwardswept
reel.ThedifferenttypesofindividualreelbladesareshowninFigure352.The
radialreeldesignshavebladesthatareplacedinlinewiththecenterofthereel
shaft.Therearofthebladeseitherhaveascallopedrelieforataperedrelief.The
forwardsweptreelhavebladesthathaveaslightforwardslant.Therearofthe
forwardsweptreelbladeshaveataperedrelief.Beforegrindingareel,ensureto
identifythetypeofreeldesigntoensurethatthegrindingiscorrectlydone.
Beforegrindingacuttingreel,ensurethatallthecuttingunitcomponentsare
ingoodcondition.Dependingonthetypeofgrinderused,damagedcutting
unitcomponentscanaffectgrindingresults.Whengrinding,becarefultonot
overheatthecuttingreelblades.Removesmallamountsofmaterialwitheach
passofthegrinder.

two(2)fairways.Duringthisinitialuse,anyburrswillberemovedfromreel
andbedknifewhichmaycreateimproperreeltobedknifeclearanceandthus
acceleratewear.Thispracticeofre-checkingthereeltobedknifecontactafter
grindingwillextendthelongevityofthesharpnessoftheedgeofthereeland
thebedknife.
