SteeringCircuit(5610-D)
A4-sectiongearpumpiscoupledtothepiston(traction)pump.Thegearpump
sectionP3supplieshydraulicowtothesteeringcontrolvalveandforthe
tractionchargecircuit.Thesteeringcontrolvalvereceivesthepumpsupplyrst,
ensuringpressureandvolumeisalwaysavailableforsteeringcontrol,nomatter
thechargecircuitdemand.Thegearpumptakesitssuctionfromthehydraulic
reservoir.Thesteeringcircuitpressureislimitedto6,990to7,500kPa(1,015to
1,088psi)byareliefvalve(R10)locatedinthesteeringcontrolvalve.
Withthesteeringwheelintheneutralposition(Figure76)andtheengine
running,thehydraulicowentersthesteeringcontrolvalveatthePportand
goesthroughthesteeringcontrolspoolvalve,bypassingtherotarymeter(V1)
andsteeringcylinder.TheowleavesthecontrolvalvethroughtheTporttothe
transmissionoillterandtractionchargecircuit.
LeftTurn
Whenaleftturn(Figure76)ismadewiththeenginerunning,theturningofthe
steeringwheel,positionsthesteeringcontrolspoolvalvesothattheowis
directedthroughthebottomofthespool.Theowenteringthesteeringcontrol
valveatthePportgoesthroughthespoolandisroutedto2places.First,most
oftheowthroughthevalveisbypassedouttheTportbacktothetransmission
oillterandtractionchargecircuit.Second,theremainderoftheowisdirected
throughtherotarymeter(V1)andoutthroughtheLport.Thepressureretracts
thesteeringcylinderpistonforaleftturn.Therotarymeterensuresthatthe
uidowtothesteeringcylinderisproportionaltotheamountofturningonthe
steeringwheel.Theuidleavingthesteeringcylinderowsbackthroughthe
steeringcontrolspoolvalveandthenoutofthesteeringcontrolvalvethrough
theTport.
Thesteeringcontrolvalvereturnstotheneutralpositionwhenturningis
completed.
RightTurn
Whenarightturn(Figure76)ismadewiththeenginerunning,theturningofthe
steeringwheel,positionsthesteeringcontrolspoolvalvesothattheowis
directedthroughthetopofthespool.Theowenteringthesteeringcontrolvalve
atthePportgoesthroughthespoolandisroutedto2places.Asinaleftturn,
mostoftheowthroughthevalveisbypassedoutthroughtheTportbackto
thetransmissionoillterandtractionchargecircuit.Alsolikealeftturn,the
remainderoftheowisdirectedthroughrotarymeter(V1)butgoesoutthrough
portR.Thepressureextendsthesteeringcylinderpistonforarightturn.The
rotarymeterensuresthattheuidowtothesteeringcylinderisproportionalto
theamountoftheturningonthesteeringwheel.Theuidleavingthesteering
cylinderowsbackthroughthesteeringcontrolspoolvalvethenthroughthe
Tportandtothehydraulicreservoir.
Thesteeringcontrolvalvereturnstotheneutralpositionwhenturningis
completed.
