RemovingtheRearAxleMotorHousings(continued)
13.Cleantherearaxleboreandinspecttheangebushings(item5inFigure
299)intherearaxleforwearordamage.Ifthebushingsneedreplacement,
dothefollowingsteps:
Note:Donotdamagetheboreoftheaxletubeduringbushingremoval.
A.Useabushingremovaltooltoextractboththeangebushingsfromthe
axletube.
B.Cleantheinsideoftheaxletubetoremoveanydirtorunwantedmaterial.
C.Applygreasetotheinnerandoutersurfacesofnewangebushings.
D.Pressthenewangebushingsintothetopandbottomoftheaxletube
untilbushingangebottomsonthetube.
E.Afterbushinginstallation,ensurethatthemotorhousingshaftslides
easilyintothebushings.Ifthereisanybinding,locateandcorrectthe
sourceofbinding.
InstallingtheRearAxleMotorHousings
1.Ifremoved,securethedraglinktothemotorhousing.
2.Applyalightcoatingofgreasetothemotorhousingshaft.
3.Installthethrustwasher(item7inFigure299)ontothemotorhousingshaft
andslidetheshaftupthroughtheaxletube.
4.Holdthemotorhousinginplaceandinstalltheretainingring(item4inFigure
299)ontotheendofthespindleshaft.
5.Placethespindlecap(item3inFigure299)tothetopofthemotorhousing
shaftandsecurewiththeange-headscrew.
6.Ifthehubandspindleassembly(item2inFigure300)wasremoved(2-wheel
drivemachines),securetheassemblytohousingwiththeange-head
screws.
7.ForthemachinesequippedwithCrossTraxAWD(Figure299),slidethe
wheelmotorassembly(withthewheelhubandhydraulichosesattached)into
themotorhousing.Securethewheelmotortothemotorhousingwiththe4
boltsand4lockwashers;torquetheboltsto109to135N∙m(80to100ft-lb).
8.Cleanthetaperedsurfacesofbothmatingpartsbeforeinstallation,connect
thetierodend(item22inFigure299)tothedraglinkwiththeslottedhex
nutandcotterpin.
9.Iftherightsidemotorhousingwasremoved,cleanthetaperedsurfacesof
bothmatingpartsbeforeinstallation,andsecurethesteeringcylinderball
joint(item25inFigure299)tothedraglinkthewiththeslottedhexnutand
cotterpin.
10.Lubricatethemotorhousingshaftsthroughthegreasettingsontherear
axle.
11.Installtherearwheelassembly;refertoInstallingtheWheel(page8–6).
12.Checktherearwheeltoe-in;refertotheOperatorsManual.
13.Ensurethatthereisnocontactbetweenthemachinecomponentsincluding
hydraulichoseswhiletherearwheelsmovefromlocktolock.Adjustif
necessary.
