TheSidewinderoffersuptoamaximumof13
inches(33cm)ofoverhang,allowingyoutotrim
closertotheedgeofsandtrapsandotherobstacles,
whileatthesametimekeepingthetractortiresas
farawayfromtheedgeoftrapsorwaterhazards
aspossible.
Ifanobstacleisintheway,shiftthecuttingunits
toeasilymowaroundit.
Whentransportingthemachinefromonework
areatoanother,raisethecuttingunitstothefully
upposition,movethemow/transportslidetothe
lefttotransport,andplacethethrottleintheFast
position.
MowingTechniques
Tobegincutting,engagethecuttingunits,then
approachthemowingareaslowly.Oncethefront
cuttingunitsareoverthemowingarea,lowerthe
cuttingunits.
Toachievetheprofessionalstraight-linecutand
stripingthatisdesirableforsomeapplications,nd
atreeorotherobjectinthedistanceanddrive
straighttowardit.
Assoonasthefrontcuttingunitsreachtheedgeof
themowingarea,liftthecuttingunitsandperform
ateardropshapedturntoquicklylineyouupfor
yournextpass.
Tomowaroundbunkers,ponds,orothercontours
easily,usetheSidewinderandmovethecontrol
leverleftorright,dependingonyourmowing
application.Thecuttingunitscanalsobeshifted
tovarytiretracking.
Thecuttingunitstendtothrowgrasstothefront
ortherearofthemachine.Frontthrowshouldbe
usedwhencuttingsmalleramountsofgrass;thus,
leavingabetterafter-cutappearance.Tothrow
clippingstothefront,simplyclosetherearshield
onthecuttingunits.
Topreventpersonalinjuryordamagetothe
machine,donotopenorclosethecuttingunit
shieldswhiletheengineisrunning.
Shutofftheengineandwaitforallmovingparts
tostopbeforeopeningorclosingthecutting
unitshields.
Whencuttinglargeramountsofgrass,positionthe
shieldstojustbelowhorizontal.Donotopen
theshieldstoofaroranexcessiveamountof
clippingscouldbuildupontheframe,rear
radiatorscreen,andenginearea.
Thecuttingunitsarealsoequippedwithbalance
weightsonthenon-motorendtogiveaneven
cut.Youcanaddorremoveweightsifamismatch
occursonyourturf.
AfterMowing
Aftermowing,thoroughlywashthemachinewitha
gardenhosewithoutanozzletopreventexcessivewater
pressurefrompreventcontaminationanddamage
tothesealsandbearings.Ensurethattheradiator
andoilcoolerarekeptfreeofdirtorgrassclippings.
Aftercleaning,inspectthemachineforpossible
hydraulicuidleaks,damage,orweartothehydraulic
andmechanicalcomponents.Checkthecuttingunit
bladestoensurethattheyaresharpandthatthe
reel-to-bedknifecontactisproperlyadjusted.
Important:Afterwashingthemachine,movethe
Sidewindermechanismfromlefttorightseveral
timestoremovethewaterbetweenthebearing
blocksandthecrosstube(model03206only).
SelectingtheClipRate(ReelSpeed)
Toachieveaconsistent,highqualityofcutanda
uniformafter-cutappearance,itisimportantthatthe
reelspeedbematchedtotheheightofcut.
Important:Ifthereelspeedistooslow,youmay
noticevisibleclipmarks.Ifthereelspeedistoo
fast,thecutmayhaveafuzzyappearance.
Adjustthecliprate(reelspeed)asfollows:
1.Verifytheheight-of-cutsettingonthecuttingunits.
Usethecolumnofthechartlistingeither5or8
reels,andndtheheight-of-cutlistingnearestthe
actualheight-of-cutsetting.Lookacrossthechart
tondthenumberthatcorrespondstothatheight
ofcut.
