speed.
CuttingUnitDriveSwitch
Thecuttingunitdriveswitch(Figure33)has2
positions:ENGAGEandDISENGAGE.Therockerswitch
operatesasolenoidvalveonthevalvebanktodrive
thecuttingunits.
HourMeter
Thehourmeter(Figure33)indicatesthetotalhoursof
machineoperation.Thehourmeterstartstofunction
wheneverthekeyswitchison.
CuttingUnitShiftLever
Tolowerthecuttingunitstotheground,movethe
cuttingunitshiftlever(Figure33)forward.Thecutting
unitsdonotdropunlesstheengineisrunning,and
theydonotoperateintheraisedposition.Toraise
thecuttingunits,pulltheshiftleverrearwardtothe
RAISEposition.
Movethelevertotherightorlefttomovethecutting
unitsinthesamedirection.Thisshouldonlybedone
whenthecuttingunitsareraisedoriftheyareonthe
groundandthemachineismoving(Model03171
only).
Note:Theleverdoesnothavetobeheldinthe
forwardpositionwhilethecuttingunitsarelowered.
DANGER
Shiftingthecuttingunitsdownhilldecreases
machinestability.Thiscouldcausearollover,
whichmayresultinpersonalinjuryordeath.
Shiftthecuttingunitsuphillwhileonaside
hill.
EngineCoolantTemperature
WarningLight
Thetemperaturewarninglight(Figure33)glowsifthe
enginecoolanttemperatureishigh.Ifyoudonotstop
thetractionunitandthecoolanttemperaturerises
another5.5°C(10°F),theengineshutsoff.
OilPressureWarningLight
Theoilpressurewarninglight(Figure33)glowsifthe
engineoilpressuredropsbelowasafelevel.
AlternatorLight
Thealternatorlight(Figure33)shouldbeoffwhen
theengineisrunning.Ifitison,checkandrepairthe
chargingsystemasneeded.
GlowPlugIndicator
Theglowplugindicatorlight(Figure33)glowswhen
theglowplugsareoperating.
ParkingBrake
Whenevertheengineisshutoff,engagetheparking
brake(Figure33)topreventaccidentalmovementof
themachine.Toengagetheparkingbrake,pullupon
thelever.Theenginestopsifyoupressthetraction
pedalwiththeparkingbrakeengaged.
LiftLeverLock
Movetheliftleverlock(Figure33)rearwardtoprevent
thecuttingunitsfromdropping.
ReelSpeedControl
Thereelspeedcontrolislocatedundertheconsole
cover(Figure34).T oattainthedesiredcliprate(reel
speed),rotatethereelspeedcontrolknobtothe
appropriateheight-of-cutsettingandmowerspeed.
