Troubleshooting
UsingtheStandardControlModule(SCM)
TheStandardControlModuleisapottedelectronicdeviceproducedinaone-size-ts-allconguration.The
moduleusessolidstateandmechanicalcomponentstomonitorandcontrolstandardelectricalfeatures
requiredforsafeproductoperation.
Themodulemonitorsinputsincludingneutral,parkingbrake,PTO,start,backlap,andhightemperature.The
moduleenergizesoutputsincludingPTO,Starter,andETR(energizetorun)solenoid.
Themoduleisdividedintoinputsandoutputs.InputsandoutputsareidentiedbygreenLEDindicators
mountedontheprintedcircuitboard.
Thestartcircuitinputisenergizedby12VDC.Allotherinputsareenergizedwhenthecircuitisclosedto
ground.EachinputhasaLEDthatisilluminatedwhenthespeciccircuitisenergized.UsetheinputLEDsfor
switchandinputcircuittroubleshooting.
Outputcircuitsareenergizedbyanappropriatesetofinputconditions.The3outputsincludePTO,ETR,and
START .OutputLEDsmonitorrelayconditionindicatingthepresenceofvoltageat1of3specicoutputterminals.
Outputcircuitsdonotdetermineoutputdeviceintegrity,soelectricaltroubleshootingincludesoutputLED
inspectionandconventionaldeviceandwireharnessintegritytesting.Measurethedisconnectedcomponent
impedance,theimpedancethroughwireharness(disconnectatSCM),orbytemporarily”testenergizing”
thespeciccomponent.
TheSCMdoesnotconnecttoanexternalcomputerorhandhelddevice,cannotbere-programmed,anddoes
notrecordintermittentfaulttroubleshootingdata.
ThedecalontheSCMonlyincludessymbols.ThreeLEDoutputsymbolsareshownintheoutputbox.Allother
LEDsareinputs.Thechartbelowidentiesthesymbols.

HerearethelogicaltroubleshootingstepsfortheSCMdevice.
1.Determinetheoutputfaultyouaretryingtoresolve(PTO,START ,orETR).
2.MovethekeyswitchtotheONpositionandensurethattheredpowerLEDisilluminated.
3.MovealltheinputswitchestoensurethatallLEDschangestate.
4.Positiontheinputdevicesattheappropriatepositiontoachievetheappropriateoutput.Usethefollowing
logiccharttodeterminetheappropriateinputcondition.
5.IfthespecicoutputLEDisilluminatedwithouttheappropriateoutputfunction,checktheoutputharness,
connections,andcomponent.Repairasneeded.
6.IfthespecicoutputLEDisnotilluminated,checkbothfuses.
