FEATURES
APPLICATIONS
2
• Meets USB Current-Limiting Requirements
• USB Ports/Hubs
• Adjustable Current Limit, 500 mA–5 A (typ) • Digital TV
• +/- 6.5% Current-Limit Accuracy at 4.5 A • Set-Top Boxes
• Fast Overcurrent Response - 3.5-μS (typ) • VOIP Phones
• 22-mΩ High-Side MOSFET
DESCRIPTION
• Operating Range: 2.5 V to 6.5 V
The TPS2556/57 power-distribution switches are
• 2-μA Maximum Standby Supply Current
intended for applications where precision current
• Built-in Soft-Start
limiting is required or heavy capacitive loads and
short circuits are encountered. These devices offer a
• 15 kV / 8 kV System-Level ESD Capable
programmable current-limit threshold between 500
• UL Listed* – File No. E169910
mA and 5.0 A (typ) via an external resistor. The
• CB & Nemko Certification*
power-switch rise and fall times are controlled to
minimize current surges during turn on/off.
• *R

≥ 24.9 kΩ (5A maximum)
TPS2556/57 devices limit the output current to a safe
level by switching into a constant-current mode when
the output load exceeds the current-limit threshold.
The FAULT logic output asserts low during
overcurrent and over temperature conditions.
