Safety Systems
Safety systems of all kinds are a particularly
important application area for intelligent
systems in the automotive technology. Within
a foreseeable period of time, all cars, from the
luxurious limousine to the economical small
car, will be fitted with intelligent systems that
will help save lifes.
Anti-lock brakes (ABS) help to prevent
accidents, while other systems – e.g. airbags
or safety belt pre-tensioners – reduce the risk
of injuries, should an accident occur. The
increasing implementation of these and similar
systems, that register for example the presence
of the passengers sets higher requirements
concerning the precise coordination of the
multiple electronic systems.
The passenger safety is improved even more
by intelligent navigation control, distance warn-
ing systems and blind spot control. After an
accident GPS and automatic telephone dialing
will call for immediate help at the accident site.
