1. First plank, first row. Leave an
expansion gap of approximately ½” width
to the left, and position the plank against
the starter wall. (HELPFUL HINT: Skip
to review Step 10 notes below regarding
the last row, then come back to
continue.)
2. Second plank, first row. Place this
plank tight to the short end of the first
plank.
3. Lower the plank with a single action
movement and repeat until you reach the
end of the row.
4. At the end of the first row, measure the
length of the last plank to fit. Be sure to
consider and include leaving the
expansion space of approximately ½” at
the end of the row.
5. Once you have determined your
measurement, make your cut.
6. Second row. The first plank (in any
row) should be at least 12” in length.
Again, be sure to leave an expansion gap
of ½” against the left wall as you start the
second row. (HELPFUL HINT – You can
minimize waste by many times using the
balance of the last cut plank from the prior
row as the first plank of the second row.
While this does not work for every row, it
will work for the majority and help reduce
your waste.)
7. Second plank second row. 8. Place the panel tight to the short end
of the previous panel and fold down in a
single action movement.
9. After 3 rows are installed, slightly pull
the entire 3 rows away from the long wall
to allow for your ½” expansion. Then
continue installing each additional row as
instructed above. (HELPFUL HINT: To
ensure a good visual as well as ensuring
the structural integrity of the installation,
do not install the planks in such a way
that the end joints from one row to the
other are closer than 6” apart).
10. For the last row, you will most likely
need to cut the plank lengthways to fit
against the far wall. Do not forget to
leave the ½” expansion, and it is not
recommended for the last plank to be
less than 1½” in width (which may mean
adjustment to the first row…..be sure to
measure across your floor and
determine this before starting).
ATTENTION: INSTALLERS AND HOMEOWNERS
Please Read Before Installation
Picture 1 Picture 2
NOTE: This is a product that has natural variations, and you may see knots, mineral streaks, etc.
Knots up to ¾” (about the width of a quarter) can be expected. There may be small gaps in the
tongue or groove up to ½”, or between the joints on the of the planks up to 1/8” (see pictures 1 and
2). This will not affect the performance or structural integrity of your wood floor.
SuperFast Diamond Solid wood flooring may be installed over plywood subfloors, concrete
subfloors, and even over vinyl floors that have been fully glue-adhered. Before installation of the
floor, install a foam underlayment. Run the foam underlay in the same direction as the flooring
planks. The underlay should be butted side-by-side with no overlap. Tape seams together. If you
are installing on a concrete subfloor, either on grade or below grade, you will also need to use a
minimum 6mm plastic poly sheeting placed under the foam underlayment as a moisture barrier.
The plastic sheeting should be overlapped at least 6 inches and taped together. (HELPFUL HINT -
The foam underlayment is NOT overlapped, but the plastic sheeting is overlapped). You may also
find that some foam underlayments already have the plastic attached. In this case, you would
always install with the plastic side down.
11. Note that in and around door jams,
you may need to undercut the door jam
molding to allow for the wood flooring
to be able to expand and contract
beneath the trim. In
some cases, you
may need to trim the bottom of the
doors as well.
Safety gear- mask, goggles, square, tape measure, spacer wedges, pencil, saw, utility knife, a
general-construction air pressure stapler of 75 PSI, and staples of 3/8” wide x 1” long.
Superfast Diamond Solid wood flooring can be stapled over existing wood subfloors provided they
are dry, firm and level.
1. When installing the floor in the Staple-Down manner, you will need to “face-nail” the first row to
hold in place. Remember to leave an expansion space of approximately ½” between the first row
of planks and the starter wall. HELPFUL HINT: You can measure adequate space from the starter
wall, then use a chalk-line to mark your first row.
2. For the entire first row, the tongue extension is facing away from the start wall (see picture
below). Pre-drill holes 1” away from the back starting edge of the first row of planks, as seen in the
picture below. These holes will be used to face-nail 4D or 6D finishing nails. You want to drill
approximate 1”-2” from each end of the planks, and at 6” intervals between holes. HELPFUL HINT:
Open several cartons and use the longer planks available for the first two rows.
SuperFast Diamond Solid may also be glued down via a full spread Premium wood adhesive. This
glue-down installation is only allowed over proper plywood subfloors (minimum ¾” plywood). It is
not recommended over OSB, and should never be glued to concrete subfloors (floating installation
recommended for all concrete subfloors).
With this system use a premium wood flooring adhesive that is specifically made for wood flooring
installations. Apply the glue as recommended by glue manufacturer, and ensure to use the
recommended trowel size.
1. When installing the floor in the Glue-Down manner, remember to leave an expansion space of
approximately ½” between the first row of planks and the starter wall. HELPFUL HINT: You can
measure adequate space from the starter wall, and use a chalk-line to mark your first row.
2. Once the first row of boards is correctly aligned and glued in place, weight down the planks while
the glue sets (or use wedges against wall). HELPFUL HINTS: Any surplus glue that may get on
the surface of the planks must be removed immediately with a damp cloth. The glue should not be
applied in the groove or the tongue of the flooring.
3. Continue to fit the boards from left to the right. Always stagger the end joins by a minimum of 6”
from row to row. Measure and trim the last board to fit, allowing for the ½” expansion gap. Where
possible, use cut-offs to start the next row. Refer to Section II (Floating Installation) for basic
information and pictures on measuring, cutting, placing and expansion spaces.
4. OPTIONAL: Flooring straps may be used to pull boards together and hold them in place while
the glue dries.
5. The expansion gap of ½” must be maintained during installation around the perimeter of the
room.
6. Read the glue manufacturer’s recommendation as for how long to stay off the floor following
installation. Too much foot-traffic before the glue is set may cause planks to push apart and gap.
7. Glue down installation is recommended when using floor heating system.
There are transition moldings available to use when you need to transition from one area to
another that involves possible height differences between flooring types. Also, there are various
base moldings and skirtings that are available in order to cover the expansion spaces left around
the perimeter of the room.
• It is recommended that you use felt pads under all chair legs and furniture (a plastic or carpeted
mat should be used in areas with chairs on wheels).
• Rubber based castor cups are recommended for heavy load furniture such as armchairs and
pianos.
• Doormats should be used inside and outside of all external doorways to prevent grit from marring
the floor, thus protecting the surface from excessive wear and tear.
• For indoor mats, do not use any rubber-backed throw rugs or mats. These may discolor your
floor.
• For regular cleaning, use a non-soap based wood floor cleaner. These are available normally in
a spray bottle, and can be used with any sponge mop.
• Do not use any abrasive cleaners, steel wool or scouring powder as this may damage the surface
of your floor.
• Do not use any Wood Oil Soaps, as these will leave residues that are very difficult to clean and
may permanently damage the finish.
4. Fasten the first row using either 4D or 6D finishing nails. Be sure to
countersink the nails (they need to be slightly recessed into the face of
the plank).
5. For remaining rows, continue to work from left to right by blind-nailing
(stapling) at 45° angle through the tongue of every plank approximately
1” to 2” from each of the ends of every plank, and then in 3”-4” intervals
in between. Countersink the staples (into the tongue) to ensure flush
engagement of groove with the following rows. Continue blind-nailing
using this method with following rows.
(HELPFUL HINT: To ensure a good visual as well as ensuring the
structural integrity of the installation, do not install the planks in such a
way that the end joints from one row to the other are closer than 6”
apart).
6. To effectively countersink the staples, your air pressure must be
correct. HELPFUL HINT: Set the compressor at 70 PSI. If tongue
damage occurs, lower air pressure. You can test this before beginning.
Check for surface damage, air pressure setting, tongue damage, edge
blistering, etc, before proceeding. Make all adjustments and corrections
before installation begins. Once proper adjustments have been made,
remove and destroy the test boards.
8. Install the remainder of the floor working from several cartons. The
last 1-2 rows will need to be face-nailed when clearance does not
permit blind nailing with the stapler. Pre-drill and face-nail just as
described in the starting first row.
● Ensure you have sufficient packs of flooring to complete your project and read these instructions
thoroughly. Calculate the total surface area of the room(s) and add 5% to 10% for cutting and
waste.
● The flooring cartons should be placed in the room in which they are to be installed to acclimate
for 48 hours and should be stacked, in their packaging, in such as way as to allow air to circulate.
The planks should be stored and installed in a room temperature of between 65 and 75 degrees.
The relative humidity during acclimation and installation should be between 45% - 60%, and this
balance of humidity should be maintained during use of the floor.
NOTE: If the Relative Humidity falls below 40% there may be a chance of shrinking around the
perimeter of the floor.
● Wood flooring is a natural product which will mature with age, and every board is unique in
design. The planks may change shade over time as a reaction to exposure to sunlight and this is
perfectly normal. It is recommended that you occasionally relocate rugs and furniture once installed
to ensure even shading.
● All subfloors must be structurally sound, flat and dry. The surface should swept thoroughly and
be free of all dirt and loose material. The flatness of the subfloor should be a standard of no more
than 3/16” height differential over a length of 8 feet.
● It is suggested that the planks be installed parallel towards the main incoming light source and,
where possible, down the length of the room.
● If installed via the floating method, it is not recommended that the wood flooring exceed 30 feet
in lineal length (in either direction) without a transition molding to allow for normal
expansion and contraction. It is also recommended a transition molding be used in doorways to
allow for expansion.
IMPORTANT: If the SuperFast wood flooring extends beyond 20 lineal feet in either direction, it is
not recommended to install over any radiant heated subfloor. If the coverage area does not exceed
20 lineal feet in any direction, the following guidelines for radiant heat apply:
o Due to the speed of sudden temperature changes, which has the potential to negatively affect
hardwood flooring construction, it is not recommended to install over any electrical radiant
heating system. Installation over electrical radiant heating systems will not be covered by the
manufacturer’s warranty.
o Below are instructions is for radiant heating system using water:
Ensure the radiant heat surface temperature never exceeds 27°C (81°F). Before
installing over newly constructed radiant heat systems, operate the system at maximum
capacity to force any residual moisture from the cementitious topping of the radiant heat
system. Then set the thermostat to a comfortable room temperature for the installation.
It is recommended that the radiant heat be applied in a gradual manner after installing
the hardwood flooring. Refer to the radiant heat system’s manufacturer
recommendations for additional guidance. Do not install over any radiant heated
subfloor if the coverage area exceeds 20 lineal feet in any direction.
Subfloors with radiant heat
The tongue and groove of each SuperFast Diamond Solid Wood Flooring plank has a
pre-applied tape film moisture protection system. This tape film is to remain on the
planks and is not to be removed.
SuperFast Diamond Solid wood floors are suitable for all rooms, except those that are subject to
excessive moisture and high levels of humidity (like full bathrooms or wet rooms).
Wood is a natural product and there will be graining and shade variances from plank to plank. This
is characteristic of all natural wood flooring, and adds to the timeless beauty of real wood. Also,
since wood flooring is a natural product, it is important during installation that you check each plank
for any knots or visual issues that you may not want to install. It is normal to use such planks at
the row ends, where the affected area may be cut off as waste material.
All wood is hydroscopic, meaning it reacts to the moisture in the environment. As a result, it will
expand or contract accordingly, so be sure to leave proper expansion area at the perimeter of the
room(s). All sources of moisture must be rectified prior to the installation of the floor, and moisture
levels in all rooms should be maintained at a stable level, in line with normal living conditions. Any
construction dampness must be completely dry.
It is important that you check each plank for manufacturing defects. Any faults must be reported
back to the store of purchase for an immediate refund or replacement prior to the flooring being
installed. The boards in this pack are random lengths, and should be laid randomly across the floor
to create the best effect. (HELPFUL HINT: To ensure the best visual, open a few cartons at a time
and mix the planks from different cartons as they are installed.)
