WARNING: High-pressure jet cleaners (steam or water jets) may
seem to be more practical at first sight, but they cause more
damage than they are worth, the pressure can penetrate
components (e.g. bearings) which are normally protected against
damp. In addition, high-pressure cleaners can remove vital
lubricants from chains, derailleurs, linkages etc., with similarly
damaging effects. For these reasons, we must warn you against the
use of water and steam jet cleaners.
For similar reasons, the transportation of your MTB/Racing bike on a
car-roof carrier is not recommended. The typical speeds of cars
subject your bike to extremely high air pressures, which force dirt
and water to penetrate the sensitive parts of your MTB/Racing bike.
In this way, damp and dirt can penetrate your bearings and become
a source of damage, which will make it noticed much later.
Every MTB/Racing bike is subjected to extreme vibration during
normal use. Under some conditions, this may lead to the loosening
of screws, bolts or clamps and become a source of potential safety
risks. Follow up and investigate any source of rattling immediately,
or consult your dealer as soon as possible.
Check the tightness of all screws, bolts and clamped components
from time to time.
Bearings
Bearings require less maintenance. ROTWILD MTBs/Racing bikes all have sealed
bearings installed as standard equipment, almost exclusively in the form of
oversized bearings. However, it is still necessary to check their condition at regular
intervals. Steering should always be smooth and free of play. Please read our "Notes
on Components and the manufacturers manuals. After wet weather rides, check
the bearing for water penetration and, if necessary (and possible), re-grease the
bearing.
