Section 2: Hazard Identification
Precautionary Statement:
-If skin irritaion occurs during handling, wash thoroughly with soap and water. Seek medical attention
immediately if rash or burn occurs.
-Burns by molten material MUST receive medical attention. Do not try to remove melted PVC from
skin.
-Hazardous combustion byproducts may include intense heat, dense black smoke, carbon monoxide,
carbon dioxide and hydrocarbon fragments.
- In case of smoldering and incomplete combustion, toxic fumes mainly consisting of CO and CO
2
may
develop as well as traces of Aliphatic and Aromatic Hydrocarbons, Aldehydes, Acids, Phenol and
Phenol-Derivatives.
- In case of fire, water spray is preferred for its cooling capacity. Use of extinguishing powder, CO
2
,
foam and dry powder are also satisfactory.
-Ensure adequate ventilation or exhaust ventilation in working area. Dust from grinding or cutting
must be removed by effective ventilation.
-Classification system: NFPA/HMIS Definitions: 0-Least, 1-Slight, 2-Moderate, 3-High, 4-Extreme
