You must also have the appropriate prerequisite for the type of connection you
want to make, as follows.
Using an ISP
If you are setting up a new e-mail account and have a well-known ISP such as
Earthlink or Yahoo, many of the required settings during the account setup are
automatically configured.
For other ISPs, you need the following information:
The protocol used for incoming mail, such as Post Office Protocol (POP) or
Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP)
The name of the incoming mail server
The name of the outgoing mail (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, or SMTP) server
Whether your e-mail account requires any security, such as Secure Sockets
Layer (SSL), APOP, or Extended Simple Mail Protocol (ESMTP)

High-speed wireless network

Wireless network card accessory (sold
separately).
Active high-speed wireless network account
ordered from your wireless carrier.
GSM dial-up via external modem
accessory
Wireless modem accessory that attaches
through the expansion card slot on your
handheld.
Active wireless service with a GSM carrier. If
you are using a high-speed wireless network,
the same carrier generally provides both
GSM and high-speed wireless service.
Note that some GSM carriers require you to
order a special data service (separate from
voice service) to make a network connection.
GSM dial-up via infrared
connection to infrared phone
Infrared-enabled mobile phone.
Active wireless service with a GSM carrier. If
you are using a high-speed wireless network,
the same carrier generally provides both
GSM and high-speed wireless service.
Note that some GSM carriers require you to
order a special data service (separate from
voice service) to make a network connection.
