You must also have the appropriate prerequisite for the type of connection you
want to make, as follows.
Using an ISP
If you are setting up a new e-mail account and have a well-known ISP such as
Earthlink or Yahoo, many of the required settings during the account setup are
automatically configured.
For other ISPs, you need the following information:
■ The protocol used for incoming mail, such as Post Office Protocol (POP) or
Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP)
■ The name of the incoming mail server
■ The name of the outgoing mail (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, or SMTP) server
■ Whether your e-mail account requires any security, such as Secure Sockets
Layer (SSL), APOP, or Extended Simple Mail Protocol (ESMTP)

order a special data service (separate from
voice service) to make a network connection.
GSM dial-up via infrared
connection to infrared phone
Infrared-enabled mobile phone.
Active wireless service with a GSM carrier. If
you are using a high-speed wireless network,
the same carrier generally provides both
GSM and high-speed wireless service.
Note that some GSM carriers require you to
order a special data service (separate from
voice service) to make a network connection.
