INTRODUCTION 0 2 TO AVOID PERSONAL INJURY TO YOU AND TO BYSTANDERS, READ AND FOLLOW THESE SAFETY RULES. Keep this manual for future reference. To ensure the correct use of the grinder and to prevent accidents, do not start working without having read this manual carefully. This manual explains how the various components work and provides instructions for carrying out the necessary checks and maintenance operations.
INTRODUCTION 12. Keep work area clean. Cluttered areas and benches invite accidents. Make sure that the working area of the grinding wheel is free of tools or other objects before starting up the grinder. Frequently clean grinding dust from beneath the grinder. 13. Don’t use in a dangerous environment. Don’t use power tools in damp or wet locations, or expose them to rain. Be sure to keep the work area well lighted. 14.

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS 0 6 A. Mounting Base Unit to Bench/Wall: Figure 3 1. Mount base assembly on a bench top or post, using two (2) lag bolts or nuts and bolts (not provided). Mount machine at chest height for best visibility and ease of operation. 2. For bench mounting, be sure the base unit extends out from the bench edge clearing the extending tabs of the base unit as shown (see Figure 1). Figure 1 2. Insert bolt #1 into holder at base of motor/head assembly into base assembly back (see Figure 3).
ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS D. Mounting Shield and Arbor Guard 0 7 Figure 8 1. Remove shield bolt from motor/head unit. 2. Insert allen-head bolt #7 and washer #8 through shield guard assembly and tighten to motor/head assembly using the small 4.5 mm allen wrench #12 (see Figure 6). Figure 6 3. To install arbor guard, insert the bolt through the arbor and shield guard assembly and mount onto motor/head unit (see Figure 7). Figure 7 3.
8 ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS Figure 11 5. Begin dressing the full radius of the wheel with the use of the dressing brick provided with this unit #9 (see Figure 11). For best results use quick, light strokes with the brick to form the desired profile (see Figure 11). 6. Turn the unit off and use the special orange template #10 to re-check the profile of the wheel (see Figure 12). Note: If necessary, turn electrical power on and repeat steps 5 and 6 until desired profile of the wheel is obtained. Figure 12 C.

0 10 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Figure 13 Grinding A Chain (cont.) Chain Direction There is risk of serious personal injury for chainsaw operators or bystanders from improperly sharpened saw chain. Read and follow all manufacturer’s instructions for your saw chain. Immediately unplug the power cord if the motor does not turn the wheel when the grinder power switch is in the “on” position. Refer to page 5. **Grounding Instructions. Figure 14 1.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Figure 15 Figure 18 4. To set right-hand cutter top-plate grind angle, rotate vise assembly to left of center (OO) (see Figure 17). (See page 15 for correct degree setting of different chain types.) 5. Setting vise-tilt angle. The cutting chain vise assembly has a tilting feature, (see Figure 18), that is used to control the side plate hook angle on some chains. Use center mark for chains requiring 90O (for those chains requiring 10O tilt see page 15). Figure 19 6.
0 12 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Figure 21 Note: This setting will keep the left and righthand cutters equal when grinding top-plates. 10. Set grind depth. Locate the chain cutter for grinding. Lower the grinding wheel (with motor off) into the gullet (see Figure 24). Set depth of grind by using the depth adjustment knob (see Figure 25). Figure 24 8. Set the chain stop. Using the cutting chain stop centering knob, center the chain stop behind the cutter as shown (see Figure 21).
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Figure 26 0 13 Figure 29 Figure 27 2. Dressing the Wheel for Depth Gauges. Place dressing brick #9 level on top of chain vise, then lower the wheel onto the grinding brick. Grind surface until shape for wheel is parallel with chain vise (see Figure 30). Figure 30 E. Setting the Depth Gauge: 1. Set grinder head angle at 60O (see Figure 28). Install the 1/4" wheel. Set vise angle to 0O (see Figure 29). Figure 28 Note: When dressing the grinding wheel, use intermittent strokes.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 0 14 Figure 31 Figure 33 Figure 34 3. Setting The Chain Stop. Position the cutter’s depth gauge so that it is centered under the grinding wheel (see Figure 31). Use chain-stop adjusting knob to obtain this setting (see Figure 32). Figure 32 5. With an OREGON® flat file (P/N 12211), file the first depth gauge. Note: OREGON® flat file P/N 12211 not included. 4. Setting the Depth Gauge.
