6 PPP and MP configuration

The system view appears.
Step 2 Run:
interface interface-type interface-number
The interface view appears.
Step 3 Run:
ip tcp vjcompress
The command enables VJ TCP compression on the interface.
Step 4 Run:
restart
The command restarts the interface.
NOTE
After you configure the packet compression or header compression, the configuration takes effect only
after the restart command, or the shutdown and the undo shutdown commands are used. If you apply
the compression to MP, you must use the restart command, or the shutdown and the undo shutdown
commands on all the interfaces bound by MP.
Van Jacobson TCP Header Compression (VJ TCP) is an algorithm of compression. The
algorithm compresses the header of TCP/IP into 3 bytes to enhance the efficiency of the
low-speed line.

6.5.4 Configuring the timeout period of negotiation

ppp timer negotiate seconds
The command configures the timeout period of negotiation on the interface.
