4.1 Overview
MODBUS
TM
is an open and free communications protocol widely used in industrial automation. It
allows for networking of up to 247 devices on a single data link.
Setup a MODBUS
TM
network to:
program custom charge settings with MSView•
TM
PC software
view real-time data with MSView•
TM
PC software
log real-time data with MSView•
TM
PC software
updatecontrollerrmware•
assign functions to a Relay Driver•
4.2 Local Connections
Local connections are between a PC and device where direct MODBUS
TM
is used without the
need for IP (Internet Protocol) or cellular networks.
NOTE: Do NOT use a NULL modem cable for the following
connections unless explicitly stated.
4.2.1 Serial / Serial (RS-232 / RS-232)
Serial connections made through RS-232 connectors require a male DB-9 to female DB-9 cable.
Connect the male DB-9 to the Morningstar product and the female DB-9 to the COM port on your
computer. Figure 22 below illustrates a proper connection.
