Before Beginning you will need:

• Drillwitheithera3/32-inchbit(forwallstuds)ora¼-inchbit(fordrywall)
• Standardscrewdriver
Measuring for curtains & drapes:
1. Window treatments are always measured width by length, and the width is always stated
rst. The length is always measured from the top of curtain panel to the oor. Measuring
foranoutsidemount:Generallyforanoutsidemount,windowhardwareismountedoneto
threeinchesabovethetopedgeofthewindowframe.Measurehorizontallyfromtheoutside
edgeofonesideofthewindowmoldingtotheoutsideedgeoftheotherside(A).Measurein
threeplaces:atthetop,middleandbottomofthewindow,roundingyourmeasurementtothe
nearest1/8-inch.Takethewidestofthesemeasurementsasyourwindowwidthmeasurement.
Makeasmallpencilmarkonthewallindicatingthecorrectwidthandlength.Holdtherodup
tothewallusingthepencilmarksasaguide.Positionthemountingbracketsontherod,and
useapenciltomarkwherethebracketswillbescrewedintothewall.Thiswidthshouldbeatleast2”-4”beyondeachsideofthewindow
foreachbracketplacement.

2. Drillholesforthebracketscrews:Usea3/32-inchdrillbitifthescrewswillbeinstalledinwallstuds;usea¼-inchdrillbitifthescrewswillbe
installedintodrywall.Ifyouareinstallingthescrewsindrywall,youshouldusetheplasticanchorsprovidedwiththecurtainrod.Onceyou
havedrilledtheholeinthedrywall,inserttheplasticanchorsallthewayintothehole.Thescrewswillthenscrewintotheplasticanchors
3. Screwin themounting brackets:Alignthescrewholesonthemountingbracketswiththeholesyoudrilledinthewall.Useastandard
screwdriverandscrewinthebracketscrews.Beforeyoutightenthescrewscompletely,checkandmakesurethattherodtscorrectlyinto
thebrackets;thentighten
4. Cuttherodtothecorrectwidth.Thisshouldbe1inchpasttheoutsideofeachbracket(2inchtotal).Iftherodiscutyouwillwanttodrilla
pilotholeintothecenterofthesectionoftherodyoujustcutsothattherodendnialwilleasilyscrewintoplace.Placetherodontothe
mountingbrackets.Whenhangingthefabricpanelstothedraperyrod,draperyrings

toconnectthefabrictothedraperyrings.Inordertodothisyouputthedraperyringsontherod
rst,andthenplacetherodontothemountingbrackets.Ifyouareusingtheclipringstoattachthepanelstothedraperyrings,makesure
tospacethefabricevenlybetweeneachclipringsothatwhenthepanelsareopeneachpleatcreatedisthesame.Ifyouusefabrichooks
toconnectthefabrictothedraperyringsyoustartbyslidingthepointedendofthehookupthroughthebackofthefabric;makingsurethat
thehookstaysontheinsideofthefabricanddoesnotshowinthefront.Useonehookforeachpleat,orequallyspacethehooksacrossthe
fabric.Thehooksshouldallbethesamedistancefromthetopofthefabric—lowenoughthatthefabriccoverstheeyeletatthebottomof
thedraperyring.Onceallofthehooksareinplace,placethedraperyrodinthe“closed”position,tocheckthatyouhavethepleatsevenly
spacedacrossthewindow.
5. Ifyou choosetoexposeyourentirewindow:Add6–8”totheactual widthofthewindowtoallowenoughspacewhen thecurtains are
completelyopeninorderto“clear”thewindow.
6. Animportantnoteaboutfullness: Make sure to purchaseenoughcurtainordrapery panels to give yourwindowtreatmentsfullness—
curtainsanddraperiesshouldbe1½-3timesthenalmeasuredwidth.Lessfullnesswillproduceamoretailoredlook,whilemorefullness
willcreatearicher,moreopulentappearance.Forexample,ifyournalmeasuredwidthis50inches,youshouldpurchaseenoughpanels
tocoverbetween75inchesand150inchesintotalwidth(50x1.5=75;50x3=150.)
7. Choosealength:Themostcommonlengthsforwindowcoveringsare:tothetopofthewindowsill(B);tojustbelowthewindowsill(C),
midwaybetweenthewindowsillandtheoor,ortotheoor(D).Commonlengthsforstandardcurtainordraperypanelsare63inches,84
inches,95inches,108inchesand120inches.
