OPERATION
a WARNING: Muf! er is very hot during and
after use. Do not touch the muf! er or allow
combustible material such as dry grass or fuel to
do so.
a WARNING: Be sure to read the fuel information
in the safety rules before you begin. If you do not
understand the safety rules, do not attempt to fuel
your unit.
FUELING THE ENGINE
a WARNING: Remove fuel cap slowly when
refueling. Never remove the fuel cap or add fuel
with the engine running. Allow engine and muf! er
to cool down before refueling.
This engine is certi• ed to operate on unleaded petrol.
Before operation, petrol must be mixed with a good quality
synthetic 2-cycle air-cooled engine oil designed to be
mixed at a ratio of 50:1. A 50:1 ratio is obtained by mixing
77 ml of oil with 4 litres of unleaded petrol. DO NOT USE
automotive oil or boat oil. These oils will cause engine
damage. When mixing fuel, follow instructions printed on
oil container. Once oil is added to petrol, shake container
momentarily to assure that the fuel is thoroughly mixed.
Always read and follow the safety rules relating to fuel
before fueling your unit.
CAUTION: Never use straight petrol in your unit. This
will cause permanent engine damage.
FUEL REQUIREMENTS
The lowest recommended octane grade is 90 (RON).
IMPORTANT
Use of alcohol blended fuels more than 10% alcohol can
cause major engine performance and durability problems.
CAUTION: Alternative fuels (not petrol) such as E-15
(15% alcohol), E-20 (20% alcohol), E-85 (85% alcohol)
are NOT classi" ed as petrol and are NOT approved
for use in 2-stroke petrol engines. Use of alternative
fuels will cause problems such as: improper clutch
engagements, overheating, vapor lock, power loss,
lubrication de" ciency, deterioration of fuel lines,
gaskets and internal carburetor components, etc.
Alternative fuels cause high moisture absorption into
the fuel/oil mixture leading to oil and fuel separation.
ADDING FUEL
• Remove the fuel cap and pour mixed fuel into the fuel
tank.
• Replace fuel cap tightly.
• Move at least 3 metres away from the fueling site.
STARTING A COLD ENGINE (or a warm engine
after running out of fuel)
1. Hold the unit on the ground in the starting position as
shown. See Picture 18.
2. Remove the blade cover from the blade before starting
the unit.
3. Support unit so the blade is off of the ground and away
from trees, bushes, onlookers, etc.

Choke Lever Positions
FULL CHOKE
NO CHOKE
1. Push the ON/OFF switch (1) to the ON position.
1. Move the choke lever (3) to the FULL CHOKE position.
2. Slowly push the primer bulb (2) 10 times.
3. Squeeze the throttle lockout (4) and throttle trigger (5),
push the fast idle button (6), and release the throttle
trigger so the fast idle button stays engaged.
4. Pull the starter rope handle sharply 5 times or until the
engine starts.
5. Allow the engine to run 5 seconds.
6. Move the choke lever to the NO CHOKE position.
7. If the engine is not currently running or has stalled, pull
starter rope handle sharply until the engine runs.
8. Allow the engine to run 15 seconds.
STARTING A WARM ENGINE
1. Move the choke lever to the NO CHOKE position.
2. Pull starter rope handle sharply until the engine runs.
DIFFICULT STARTING (or starting a ! ooded
engine)
1. Move the choke lever to the NO CHOKE position.
2. Pull the starter rope handle sharply to clear the engine
of excess fuel. This could require pulling the starter
handle many times depending on how badly the unit
is ! ooded.
TO STOP THE ENGINE
To stop the engine, push the ON/OFF switch to the OFF
position.
OPERATING POSITION
See Picture 20.
BASIC WORKING TECHNIQUES
• Work with a swinging action from the bottom upwards
when trimming sides. See Picture 21.
• When trimming a hedge the engine should always face
away from the hedge.
• Hold the machine as close to your body as possible to
get the best balance.
• Make sure that the tip does not touch the ground.
• Do not rush the work, but work steadily until all the
branches have been cut back cleanly.
It is recommended that the engine not be operated for
longer than 30 seconds at full throttle. Releasing the
trigger and allowing the engine to brie! y return to idle
speed (5 - 10 seconds) will be suf• cient.
Note: Use the minimum throttle speed necessary
to effectively cut hedges for optimal hedge trimmer
performance.
The handle adjustment lever can be used to rotate the
rear handle to allow operation of the unit at a 45° and 90°
position.
1. Allow engine to return to idle speed.
2. Pull handle lever and rotate rear handle to desired
position.
3. Release handle lever.
