ASSEMBLY
CAUTION: Always be sure that the tool is
switched off and unplugged before carrying out
any work on the tool.
Removing or installing planer
blades
CAUTION: Tighten the blade installation bolts
carefully when attaching the planer blades to
the tool.Alooseinstallationboltcanbedangerous.
Alwayschecktoseetheyaretightenedsecurely.
CAUTION: Handle the planer blades very
carefully. Use gloves or rags to protect your n-
gers or hands when removing or installing the
blades.
CAUTION: Use only the Makita wrench
provided to remove or install the planer blades.
Failure to do so may result in overtightening or insuf-
cienttighteningoftheinstallationbolts.Thiscould
causeaninjury.
For tool with conventional planer
blades
Toremovetheplanerbladesonthedrum,unscrewthe
installationboltswiththehexwrench.Thedrumcover
comesofftogetherwiththeblades.

Toinstalltheplanerblades,dothefollowingprocedure.
1. Cleanoutallchipsorforeignmatteradheringto
thedrumandplanerblades.
2. Chooseplanerbladesofthesamedimensions
andweight.Otherwisedrumoscillation/vibrationwill
result, causing poor planing action and, eventually, tool
breakdown.
3. Usethebladegaugetosettheplanerbladescor-
rectly.Puttheplanerbladeonthebladegauge.Apply
thecuttingedgeofthebladeontheinsideankofthe
bladegauge.

4. Placetheadjustingplateontheplanerblade.
Presstheadjustingplatesothatitsheelisushwiththe
backsideofbladegauge.Tightentwoscrewsonthe
adjustingplate.
5. Sliptheheeloftheadjustingplateintothedrum
groove,thentthedrumcoveronit.
6. Tightenalltheinstallationboltsevenlyandalter-
natelywiththehexwrench.
7. Repeattheprocedureabovefortheotherblade.
For tool with mini planer blades
Toreplacetheminiplanerblades,dothefollowing
procedure.
1. Carefullycleanthedrumsurfacesandthedrum
cover.
2. Unscrewthethreeinstallationboltswiththehex
wrench.Removethedrumcover,adjustingplate,set
plateandtheminiplanerblade.

3. Usethebladegaugetosettheplanerblades
correctly.Puttheminiplanerbladeonthebladegauge.
Applythecuttingedgeofthebladeontheinsideankof
thebladegauge.

4. Looselyattachtheadjustingplatetothesetplate
withthescrews.Puttheadjustingplateandsetplateon
thebladegauge.Fittheplanerbladelocatinglugson
thesetplateintotheminiplanerbladegroove.
5. Applytheheeloftheadjustingplateontotheback
sideofthebladegaugeandtightenthescrews.Check
the alignments carefully to ensure uniform cutting.
6. Sliptheheeloftheadjustingplateintothegroove
of the drum.
7. Putthedrumcoveronthesetplateandlooselyt
themontothedrumwiththethreebolts.Slipthemini
planerbladeintothespacebetweenthedrumandset
plate.Makesurethattheplanerbladelocatinglugson
thesetplatetintheminiplanerbladegroove.

8. Adjusttheminiplanerbladepositionlengthwayso
thatthebladeendsareclearandequidistantfromthe
housingononesideandthemetalbracketontheother.
9. Tightenthethreeboltswiththesocketwrench
provided and rotate the drum to check the clearances
betweenthebladeendsandthetoolbody.
10. Checkthethreeboltsfornaltightness.
11. Repeattheprocedureabovefortheotherblade.
