Considerationsforconnectinganexternalmonitor
•Wheninstallinganoperatingsystem,youmustinstallthedisplaydriverforyourmonitorthatisprovided
withthecomputer,andthemonitorINFfilethatisprovidedwiththeexternalmonitor.
•Ifyousetaresolutionhigherthantheresolutionyouareusingonthecomputermonitor,andusean
externalmonitorthatdoesnotsupportthatresolution,takeadvantageofthevirtualscreenfunction,
whichenablesyoutodisplayonlyapartofthehigh-resolutionscreenimageyourcomputerproduces.
YoucanseeotherpartsoftheimagebymovingthescreenwiththeTrackPointpointingdeviceoranother
pointingdevice.
•Iftheexternalmonitoryouareusingisoutdated,theresolutionandtherefreshratemightbelimited.
UsingaDVImonitor
Ifyourcomputerhasoneofthefollowingoptionaldockingstations,youcanuseaDigitalVisualInterface
(DVI)monitorthroughtheDVIconnectorofthatunit:
•ThinkPadProDock
•ThinkPadUltraDock
Notes:
•ThescreenmodethatcanbeuseddependsonthespecificationsoftheDVImonitor.
•BeforeyouconnectaDVImonitor,makesurethatthecomputerisconnectedtotheexpansionunitand
worksproperly.
ToconnectaDVImonitor,dothefollowing:
1.Turnoffthecomputer.
2.ConnectaDVImonitortotheDVIconnectoroftheexpansionunit,andthenconnectthemonitor
toanelectricaloutlet.
3.TurnontheDVImonitorandthecomputer.
ConsiderationsforconnectingaDVImonitor
ConnectaDVImonitortotheexpansionunit,andturnonthemonitorbeforeyouturnonthecomputer.
Otherwisethesystemcannotrecognizethatthemonitorisconnected.IftheoptionforenablingtheDVI
monitorintheDisplayPropertieswindowisnotdisplayed,tryclosingthewindowandopeningitagain.Ifthe
optionstillisnotdisplayed,makesurethattheconnectorofthemonitorisattachedfirmly,andrepeatthe
procedureforconnectingthemonitor.
UsingtheminiDisplayPortconnector
YourcomputerhasaminiDisplayPortconnector,whichisadigitaldisplayinterfaceforconnectiontovarious
externaldevices,suchascathoderaytube(CRT)monitors,LCDmonitors,projectors,orevenhigh-definition
televisions.Thiscompactconnectorenablesaplug-and-playsetupandsupportsadaptersthatcanplug
intoDVI,VGA,orHigh-DefinitionMultimediaInterface™(HDMI)connectors.
