UsingthewirelessLANconnection
Awirelesslocalareanetwork(LAN)coversarelativelysmallgeographicarea,suchasanofficebuildingora
house.Devicesbasedonthe802.11standardscanconnecttothistypeofnetwork.
Yourcomputercomeswithabuilt-inwirelessnetworkcardandaconfigurationutilitytohelpyouestablish
wirelessconnectionsandmonitortheconnectionstatus.Thisenablesyoutostayconnectedtoyournetwork
whileyouareattheoffice,inameetingroom,orathome,withnoneedforawiredconnection.
ToestablishawirelessLANconnection,dothefollowing:
•ForWindows7:
1.PressF8andfollowtheinstructionsonthescreentoenablethewirelessfeature.
2.Clickthewireless-network-connection-statusiconintheWindowsnotificationarea.Alistofavailable
wirelessnetworksisdisplayed.
3.Double-clickanetworktoconnecttoit.Providerequiredinformationifneeded.
•ForWindows8andWindow8.1:
1.Gotothedesktopandclickthewireless-network-connection-statusiconintheWindowsnotification
area.Alistofavailablewirelessnetworksisdisplayed.
Note:Todisplaythelist,ensurethatairplanemode(flightmode)issettooff.
2.Double-clickanetworktoconnecttoit.Providerequiredinformationifneeded.
Ifyouneedtoconnecttodifferentwirelessnetworksindifferentlocations,usethefollowingsoftwareto
managemultiplenetworkprofilessothatthecomputerautomaticallyconnectstoanavailablenetworkwhen

TipsforusingthewirelessLANfeature
Toachievethebestconnection,usethefollowingguidelines:
•PlaceyourcomputersothatthereareasfewobstaclesaspossiblebetweenthewirelessLANaccess
pointandthecomputer.
•Openyourcomputerlidtoanangleofslightlymorethan90degrees.
•Ifyouusethewirelessfeature(the802.11standards)ofyourcomputersimultaneouslywithaBluetooth
option,thedatatransmissionspeedcanbedelayedandtheperformanceofthewirelessfeaturecanbe
degraded.
Checkingthewireless-LANconnectionstatus
Youcancheckthewireless-LANconnectionstatusthroughthewireless-network-connection-statusiconin
theWindowsnotificationarea.Themorebarsencompassed,thebetterthesignalis.
FortheWindows7operatingsystem,youalsocanchecktheAccessConnectionsgauge,theAccess
Connectionsstatusicon,ortheAccessConnectionswirelessstatusiconintheWindowsnotificationarea.
