Sleepandhibernationproblems
•Problem:Thecomputerenterssleepmodeunexpectedly.
Solution:Iftheprocessoroverheats,thecomputerautomaticallyentersleepmodetoallowthecomputer
tocoolandtoprotecttheprocessorandotherinternalcomponents.Checkthesettingsforsleepmode,
usingPowerManager.
•Problem:Thecomputerenterssleepmode(thesleepindicatorturnson)immediatelyafterPower-on
self-test.
Solution:Makesurethat:
–Thebatteryischarged.
–Theoperatingtemperatureiswithintheacceptablerange.Referto“Features”onpage14,

,and“Operatingenvironment”onpage16.
Ifthebatteryischargedandthetemperatureiswithinrange,havethecomputerserviced.
•Problem:Anerrormessageisdisplayedindicatingacriticallow-batteryerrorandthecomputer
immediatelyturnsoff.
Solution:Thebatterypowerisgettinglow.Connecttheacpoweradaptertothecomputerandplugit
intoanelectricaloutlet.
•Problem:ThecomputerdisplayremainsblankafteryoupressFntoreturnfromsleepmode.
Solution:Checkwhetheranexternalmonitorwasdisconnectedorturnedoffwhilethecomputerwas
insleepmode.Ifyoudisconnectedorturnedofftheexternalmonitor,connectitorturnitonbefore
resumingthecomputerfromthesleepmode.Whenresumingthecomputerfromthesleepmodewithout
attachingtheexternalmonitororturningiton,andthecomputerdisplayremainsblank,pressFn+F7to
bringupthecomputerdisplay.
•Problem:Thecomputerdoesnotreturnfromsleepmode,orthesleepindicatorstaysonandthe
computerdoesnotwork.
Solution:Ifthesystemdoesnotreturnfromsleepmode,itmayhaveenteredsleeporhibernationmode
automaticallybecausethebatteryisdepleted.Checkthesleepindicator.
–Ifthesleepindicatorison,yourcomputerisinsleepmode.Connecttheacpoweradaptertothe
computer;thenpressFn.
–Ifthesleepindicatorisoff,yourcomputerisinhibernationmodeorpower-offstate.Connecttheac
poweradaptertothecomputer;thenpressthepowerbuttontoresumeoperation.
Ifthesystemstilldoesnotreturnfromsleepmode,yoursystemmaystoprespondingandyoumaynot
beabletoturnoffthecomputer.Inthiscase,youneedtoresetthecomputer.Ifyouhavenotsaved
yourdata,itmaybelost.Toresetthecomputer,pressandholdthepowerbuttonfor4secondsormore.
Ifthesystemisstillnotresponding,removetheacpoweradapterandresetthesystembyinsertinga
