Overview This guide is intended to be used by customers who are replacing Customer Replaceable Units (CRUs) as well as trained service personnel who are replacing Field Replaceable Units (FRUs). In this guide, CRUs and FRUs will often be referred to as parts. Note: Trained service personnel should refer to the Hardware Maintenance Manual (HMM) for parts ordering information. This guide does not include procedures for all parts.

1. Remove any media (diskettes, CDs, or memory cards) from the drives, shut down your operating system, turn off all attached devices, and the computer. 2. Unplug all power cords from electrical outlets. 3. Disconnect all cables attached to the computer. This includes power cords, input/output (I/O) cables, and any other cables that are connected to the computer. Refer to “Locating connectors on the rear of the computer”. 4. Remove the rubber cap that protects the screw. 5.
7. Push out the latches on both sides of the memory socket to release the memory module and gently pull the memory module upward to remove it from its socket . Both memory modules can be removed by using the same procedure. 4 5 4 8. Align then insert the new memory module into the socket and push down on the top edge of the memory module. Make sure the latches lock the memory module in place. 9. Align then slide back the memory cover. 10. Screw the memory cover back.
Replacing the Optical drive Attention: Turn off the computer and wait 3 to 5 minutes to let the computer cool before replacing the optical drive. To remove the optical drive: Note: For this procedure, it helps to place the computer face-down on a soft flat surface. Lenovo recommends that you use a blanket, towel, or other soft cloth to protect the screen surface from scratches or other damage. 1.
7. Remove the 2 screws that secure the optical drive to the metal bracket. 8. Remove the optical drive cover. 3 3 3 3 2 1 1 9. Install the new optical drive. (1) Connect the new optical drive to the cover. (2) Screw back the metal bracket to the new optical drive. (3) Slide the new optical drive into the drive bay. 10. Screw the new optical drive back to the chassis.
4. Push the computer stand upward to the end side to lock the computer stand . , then slide the lock to the right 1 2 5. Remove the 2 screws that secure the computer stand to the computer chassis. 6. Removing the computer cover To remove the computer cover: Note: For this procedure, it helps to place the computer face-down on a soft flat surface. 5. Remove the 4 screws that secure the hard disk drive to the hard disk drive bay. 6. Slide the hard disk drive out of the bay. 1 2 1 1 1 7. Install the new hard disk drive. (1) Slide the new hard disk drive into the drive bay. (2) Screw back the 4 screws on the drive bay. 8. Connect the data and power cables back to the hard disk drive. 9. Align the 4 screw holes in the hard disk drive bay with the mounting holes in the chassis, then screw it back. 10. Install the computer cover and stand.
