Thischapterprovidesgeneralinformationthatappliestoallmachinetypessupportedbythispublication.
Featuresandtechnologies
Theserverusesthefollowingfeaturesandtechnologies:
•UEFI-compliantserverrmware
UEFIreplacesthebasicinput/outputsystem(BIOS)anddenesastandardinterfacebetweenthe
operatingsystem,platformrmware,andexternaldevices.TheserverdesigncombinestheUEFI
capabilitiesandfeatureswithlegacyBIOScompatibility.UEFI-compliantserversarecapableofstarting
UEFI-compliantoperatingsystems,BIOS-basedoperatingsystems,andBIOS-basedadaptersaswell
asUEFI-compliantadapters.
Note:ThisserverdoesnotsupportDOS.
•Dual-coreorquad-coreprocessing
TheserversupportsoneIntel®Xeon®orCeleron®dual-coreorquad-coremicroprocessor.
•Integratedmanagementmodule
TheIntegratedmanagementmodule(IMM)combinesserviceprocessorfunctions,videocontroller,and
(whenanoptionalvirtualmediakeyisinstalled)remotepresencefunctioninasinglechip.TheIMM
providesadvancedservice-processorcontrol,monitoring,andalertingfunction.Ifanenvironmental
conditionexceedsathresholdorifasystemcomponentfails,theIMMlightsLEDstohelpyoudiagnose
theproblem,recordstheerrorintheeventlog,andalertsyoutotheproblem.Optionally,theIMMalso
providesavirtualpresencecapabilityforremoteservermanagementcapabilities.TheIMMprovides
remoteservermanagementthroughthefollowingindustry-standardinterfaces:
–IntelligentPlatformManagementInterface(IPMI)version2.0
–SimpleNetworkManagementProtocol(SNMP)version3
–CommonInformationModel(CIM)
–Webbrowser

•Remotepresencecapabilityandblue-screencapture
Theremotepresenceandblue-screencapturefeaturesareintegratedfunctionsoftheintegrated
managementmodule(IMM)andareavailablewiththepurchaseoftheoptionalLenovoVirtualMediaKey.
Avirtualmediakeyisrequiredtoenabletheremotepresenceandblue-screencapturefeatures.The
remotepresencefeatureprovidesthefollowingfunctions:
–Remotelyviewingvideowithgraphicsresolutionsupto1280x1024,regardlessofthesystemstate
–Remotelyaccessingtheserver,usingthekeyboardandmousefromaremoteclient
–MappingtheDVDdrive,diskettedrive,andUSBashdriveonaremoteclient,andmappingISOand
disketteimagelesasvirtualdrivesthatareavailableforusebytheserver
–UploadingadisketteimagetotheIMMmemoryandmappingittotheserverasavirtualdrive
Theblue-screencapturefeaturecapturesthevideodisplaycontentsbeforetheIMMrestartstheserver
whentheIMMdetectsanoperating-systemhangcondition.Asystemadministratorcanusethe
blue-screencapturetoassistindeterminingthecauseofthehangcondition.
