MAINTENANCE
Replacing the Air Filter
If the engine seems weak or runs unevenly,
the air lter may be clogged. If run with a
soiled air lter, the spark plugs can obtain a
coating that disrupts operation.
For this reason, it is important to replace the air
lter regularly (see the heading Maintenance
Schedule for the proper service interval).
Cleaning/replacing the air lter is carried out
as follows:
1. Remove the two plastic fasteners on the
top of the air lter cowling and remove
the air lter cowling.
2. Remove the foam rubber pre-lter and
clean using a mild detergent.
Squeeze it dry with a clean cloth.
3. Remove the wing nuts for the air lter
and remove the paper lter. Tap the
paper lter against a xed surface to
remove dust. If the paper lter is still
dirty, it must be replaced.
4. Ret the air lter as follows:
Check that the seal on the bottom of the
paper lter is whole.
Mount the paper lter in the air lter
housing and tighten the wing nuts.
5. Ret the pre-lter on the paper lter.
6. Replace the cowling over the air lter
housing. Do not over tighten the plastic
fasteners.
