Installing h
ardware
You and the HP representative initially install the Continuous Access XP Journal hardware. To install the
hardware required for Continuous Access XP Journal operations:
1. User:Ident
ify the locations of the Continuous Access XP Journal primary and secondary data
volumes, so the Continuous Access XP Journal hardware can be installed and congured properly.
2. HP Representative: Ensure that the primary and secondary arrays are congured for Command View
XP or XP Remote Web Console operations (for example, SVP is connected to the LAN). See the
HP StorageWorks Command View XP user guide for XP Disk Arrays or the HP StorageWorks XP
Remote Web Console user guide for XP12000/XP10000/SVS200.
3. HP Representative: Ensure that the primary and secondary arrays are properly congured for
Continuous Access XP Journal operations (for example, cache and NVS) (see Cache and nonvolatile
storage
(NVS)). Ensure that the desired system option modes are enabled (see Table 3). Ensure
that ade
quate cache is installed and available for Continuous Access XP Journal operations. You
must also consider the amount of Cache LUN XP data to be stored in cache when determining the
required amount of cache.
4. HP Representative: Ensure that the primary arrays are congured to report sense information to the
hosts. Secondary arrays should also be attached to a host server to enable sense information
report
ing if a problem with an secondary data volume or secondary array occurs. If the remote
site is unattended, secondary arrays should be attached to a host server at the primary site, so the
system administrator can monitor the operational condition of the secondary arrays.
5. HP Rep
resentative: If power sequence control cables are used, set the power select switch for the
cluster to LOCAL to prevent the host from powering off the primary array. Also ensure that the
secondary array will not be powered off during Continuous Access XP Journal operations. See
Power management for arrays and network relay devices for more information about powering
off and on the primary and secondary arrays.
6. HP Representative: Install Continuous Access XP Journal remote copy connections between the
pri
mary and secondary arrays. The user supplies this hardware (optical bre cables, switches,
and so on).
See Remote copy connections for remote copy congurations. Distribute the paths between
different storage clusters and switches to provide maximum exibility and availability. Logical paths
between the primary and secondary arrays must be separate from logical paths between the host
an
dsecondaryarray.
