Software Manual
Journal primary data volume or secondary data volume, you must delete the pair first to return the
volume to SMPL status.
When creating an XP Continuous Access Journal pair consisting of two Virtual LUN volumes, make
sure that the primary data volume and secondary data volumes have the same capacity.
Cache Residency Manager
You can perform Cache Residency Manager operations on XP Continuous Access Journal primary
data volumes and secondary data volumes.
LUN Manager
LUN Manager operations do not affect XP Continuous Access Journal operations. Volumes that
are under secure ports and/or assigned to host groups can also be assigned to XP Continuous
Access Journal pairs. Volumes that are assigned to XP Continuous Access Journal pairs can be
protected by LUN Manager.
XP Continuous Access Journal secondary data volumes cannot be accessed by a UNIX or computer
server host except when the pair is split.
XP Thin Provisioning
You can create an XP Continuous Access Journal pair by specifying TP-VOL (virtual volume of XP
Thin Provisioning). Either one or both of the primary or secondary volumes can be the TP-VOLs.
The exception is that TP-VOLs cannot be used for XP Continuous Access Journal journal volumes.
To use the TP-VOLs that are also used by an XP Business Copy pair or an XP Auto LUN migration
plan, follow these steps:
The operation is supported to create XP Continuous Access Journal pairs where the primary volume,
the secondary volume, or both volumes are virtual volumes from XP Thin Provisioning (TP-VOLs).
1. Release the XP Business Copy pair and disable the Auto LUN setting.
2. Create the XP Continuous Access Journal pair, and then re-create the XP Business Copy pair
and the XP Auto LUN migration plan if needed.
When you specify the TP-VOL that has the allocated pages to S-VOL of the XP Continuous Access
Journal pair, be aware of the following:
• The used pool capacity will be temporarily bigger than the actual used capacity because
pages must be reallocated in the TP-VOL.
• Before you create the pair, make sure that the TP-VOL pool capacity is sufficient.
• Before you create the pair, make sure that the Pool-VOLs are not blocked. If the Pool-VOLs are
blocked, you must restore the volume status, and then create the pair.
If the virtual volume of XP Thin Provisioning (TP-VOL) is used as the XP Continuous Access Journal
S-VOL, update S-VOL because the capacity of the Pool-VOL is full. In this instance, the pair status
turns PFUS and the pair is suspended. The PFUS status is displayed by RAID Manager. Remote
Web Console displays this status as PSUS.
XP Performance Control
When the remote copy operation is performed with the Fibre Channel interface, the initiator ports
do not support the Performance Control option.
XP Business Copy
XP Continuous Access Journal and XP Business Copy can be used together in the same storage
system and on the same volumes to provide multiple copies of data at the primary and/or remote
sites.
