Continuous Access Journal system requirements are:
• Primary storage system−storage system with XP Continuous Access Journal installed.
• Secondary storage system−storage system with XP Continuous Access Journal installed. XP
Continuous Access Journal can coexist with Hitachi TrueCopy™ for Mainframe in the same
storage system.
• Remote copy connections−Fibre Channel (see “Setting up Remote Copy Connections”
(page 52)):
◦ Multimode or single-mode optical fibre cables are required at both the primary storage
system and secondary storage system.
◦ For distances up to 0.5 km, multimode optical short-wave fiber cables are required
between the primary storage system and secondary storage system.
◦ For distances from 0.5 km to 1.5 km (1,640 to 4,920 feet), multimode Fibre Channel
interface cables with up to two switches are required.
◦ For distance up to 10 km, single optical long-wave fiber cables are required between
the primary storage system and secondary storage system.
◦ For distances from 10 km to 30 km (6.2 to 18.6 miles), single-mode long-wave Fibre
Channel interface cables with up to two switches are required.
◦ For distances greater than 30 km (18.6 miles), approved third-party channel extender
products and telecommunications lines are required. Long-distance XP Continuous Access
Journal solutions are provided based on user requirements and workload characteristics.
• Host platforms:
The storage system supports XP Continuous Access Journal operations for a variety of
UNIX-based and computer server platforms, including HP-UX 11.0, HP-UX 11i, Sun Solaris
9, Windows 2000, Windows 2003, and IBM AIX 5.1.

Continuous Access Journal.
• A computer that runs Remote Web Console (Remote Web Console computer):
The Remote Web Console software is required for storage system XP Continuous Access
Journal operations. The XP Continuous Access Journal remote console software is a component
of the Remote Web Console product. The XP Continuous Access Journal license key is required
to enable the XP Continuous Access Journal option(s) on the storage system (see “Enabling
the XP Continuous Access Journal Option” (page 71)). Separate license keys are required for
each storage system. For further information on Remote Web Console operations, see the HP
XP24000/XP20000 Remote Web Console User Guide or contact your HP service
representative.
Administrator or XP Continuous Access Journal write access to the Remote Web Console
software is required to perform XP Continuous Access Journal operations. Users without
Administrator or XP Continuous Access Journal write access can only view XP Continuous
Access Journal information.
• About the license for XP Continuous Access Journal:
To use XP Continuous Access Journal, you must install not only a license for XP Continuous
Access Journal, but also a license for XP Continuous Access.
