Description
The HP StorageWorks TapeAssure service enables the monitoring of standalone tape drives and tapes
by pulling HP Library and Tape Tools support tickets between backups. This service is used in
conjunction with HP StorageWorks Command View TL, which receives the tickets, processes them
and offers a web-based graphical user interface to view the results. Together, they provide
comprehensive information about the user's tape drives and tapes, including:
• Drive Health – write/read quality levels, key drive life indicators, and any service actions
• Drive Performance – host and media transfer rates and compression ratios
• Drive Utilization – the percentage of time the drive is in use
• Tape Health – effective capacity, key tape life indicators and any service actions
• Tape Utilization – write and read data volumes and capacity used

Enhancements
Dynamic configuration file changes for the following keys now take effect immediately instead of
waiting for up to 5 minutes: TICKET_STORING_LOCATION, MANAGEMENT_STATION_IP,
POLLING_INTERVAL, MAX_TICKET_STORE, and TICKET_TIMEOUT.
The list of monitored tape drives shows more information, including
• Number of tape drives being monitored with detailed identification attributes
• Time of the first and most recent ticket pulled for each drive
• Total number of tickets pulled for all drives
• Number of tickets sent to the management station and waiting to be sent to the management station
• The amount of disk space used to store tickets
