Initializing V-VOL management areas or pool management blocks
This section describes how to initialize the whole V-VOL management areas or a pool management block
in the V-VOL management area.
Initializing V-VOL management areas
By initializing the whole V-VOL management area, you can create a pool with a capacity that is larger
than before the initialization or create more pools compared to before the initialization.
You must delete all pools in the disk array to initialize the V-VOL management area. If pools exist in the
disk array, only the pool management block is initialized instead of the whole V-VOL management area.
For more information, seeInitializing pool management blocks” on page 39.

Initializing pool management blocks
If you initialize the pool management block, the pool’s I/O performance improves compared to before
initialization. You can initialize the pool management block without changing pools already created in the
disk array.
The procedure to initialize the pool management block is the same as for initializing the V-VOL
management area. To initialize the pool management block, see ”Initializing V-VOL management areas
on page 39.
NOTE: You might need up to 20 minutes to initialize the pool management block.
