HP-UX 11i v3 Operating Environments
Operating Environments (OEs) are tested and integrated application bundles designed
to work with the operating system and provide the functionality needed for your
system's purpose.
HP restructured the Operating Environments in HP-UX 11i v3 to allow you to easily
create smaller systems that:
• Install faster
• Require less disk space
• Update faster
• Require less software maintenance
• Have a smaller security vulnerability footprint
All products that were originally located in the separate OE bundles (FOE, EOE, MCOE,
and TCOE) have been unbundled as recommended products in the HP-UX 11i v3
release. These products are automatically selected for install, but you can choose to
deselect them before installing or updating to HP-UX 11i v3. The HP-UX 11i v3 OEs
include the following:

DescriptionHP-UX 11i v3 OE
Designed for the demands of Web servers, content servers, and front-end
servers, this OE includes applications such as HP-UX Web Server Suite, Java™,
and Mozilla Application Suite. This OE is bundled as HPUX11i-OE.
Foundation OE (FOE)
Designed for database application servers and logic servers, this OE contains
the HP-UX 11i v3 Foundation OE bundles and additional applications such
as GlancePlus Pak to enable an enterprise-level server. This OE is bundled as
HPUX11i-OE-Ent.
Enterprise OE (EOE)
Designed for the application servers and database servers, this OE contains
the Enterprise OE bundles, plus applications such as HP Serviceguard and
Workload Manager to enable a mission-critical server. This OE is bundled as
HPUX11i-OE-MC.
Mission Critical OE
(MCOE)
Designed for server applications, this OE contains extensive graphics
applications and Math Libraries. This OE is bundled as HPUX11i-TCOE.
