Discovering storage systems on the network
The Find Systems window opens the first time you open
the CMC. Use Find Systems to discover the storage
systems on the network, either by adding individual IP
addresses or by selecting Auto discover by broadcast.
Verifying or configuring RAID and configuring
network settings
Verify the RAID configuration on your storage systems
before creating a management group. You can only
reconfigure RAID on storage systems that are in the
Available Systems pool. Change network settings,
including bonding NICs, before creating a management
group.
IMPORTANT: The network settings must be the
same for the switches, clients, and storage
systems. Set up the end-to-end network before
creating storage volumes.
Verifying the software version
Click Check for Updates to update your software to the
latest version.
Setting up SAN storage
Use the Management Groups, Clusters and Volumes
wizard to set up the storage configuration and create a
storage volume.
NOTE: If you have a 2-node or multi-site SAN
configuration, you may need to install the Failover
Manager that runs on VMware ESX Server or
Hyper-V Server for automated failover
configurations or multi-site SANs.
Do not install the FOM on a SAN/storage volume
that is served from the HP StoreVirtual storage
systems.
Installing iSCSI initiators
Install the appropriate iSCSI initiator on your application
servers.
Configuring iSCSI initiators
Configure the initiators to:
• Connect to the cluster VIP.
• Discover the targets.
• Log on.
Creating Fibre Channel connectivity
Two or more storage systems enabled for Fibre Channel
must be added to a management group to activate Fibre
Channel connectivity.
Zoning
Configure the Fibre Channel zoning after the storage
systems are added to a management group. The
WWNN is assigned when the Fibre Channel-enabled
storage systems are added to a management group. If
storage systems are removed from the management
group for maintenance, they retain the same WWNN
when they are returned to that management group.
NOTE: The WWNN is assigned to the
management group. If the management group is
deleted and the Fibre Channel-enabled storage
systems are added to a different management
group, their WWNN will change.
For all other Fibre Channel configuration standards, see
the HP SAN Design Reference Guide.
Next Steps
• Check the Alarms panel and resolve any alarms.
• Check the Best Practices Summary on the SAN
Status Page.
• Resolve any Best Practice deficiencies.
Installing the CLI
1. Insert the HP StoreVirtual Management Software
DVD in the DVD drive. The installer launches
automatically.
2. Click Command Line Interface (CLI).
3. Click Install CLI.
The installation wizard installs the CLI software to the
default location of C:\Program
Files\HP\StoreVirtual\CLI and sets the
environment variable.
Installing the LeftHand Networks MIB
The complete set of standard SNMP MIB files and the
LeftHand Networks MIB files are installed when installing
the CMC using the Complete option. The installer places
the MIBs in the following directory by default:
C:\Program Files
(x86)\HP\StoreVirtual\UI\mibs.
1. Insert the HP StoreVirtual Management Software
DVD in the DVD drive. The installer launches
automatically.
NOTE: If the installer does not launch
automatically, navigate to C:\Program
Files
(x86)\HP\StoreVirtual\UI\mibs to
locate the MIB files.
2. Click SNMP MIBs.
3. Click Install SNMP MIBs.
The installer puts the complete set of standard SNMP
MIBs and the HP LeftHand Networks MIBs in the default
location of C:\Program Files
(x86)\HP\StoreVirtual\UI\mibs.
NOTE: Your SNMP client may require that you
copy the MIBs to another location, or you may
need to copy them to the system where the SNMP
client is installed.
(Optional) Installing the Failover Manager
Install the Failover Manager on a separate server on the
network.
CAUTION: Install the Failover Manager on a
system that has access to the SAN subnet. Do not
install it on the SAN itself or on a volume that is
served from the HP StoreVirtual storage systems.
1. Insert the HP StoreVirtual VSA and Failover
Manager DVD in the DVD drive. The installer
launches automatically.
NOTE: If the installer does not launch
automatically, navigate to the DVD drive to
locate the executable. Double-click the
executable to launch it.
2. Click Failover Manager.
3. Click Install FOM.
4. Continue through the installation wizard, following
the instructions on each window.
5. Click Finish to exit the wizard and start the Failover
Manager.
